Fun Your Favourite Books & Authors!

Lots of love for HG Wells - WAR OF THE WORLDS not only, for me, inspired the best ever concept album not by Rick Wakeman, but the best ever sequel - Willy Rushton's W.G. GRACE'S LAST CASE. No where near as famous as something so funny, rude and clever ought to be. Dr Grace and Dr Watson team up...

Yentl (Hawk - I gave you a like for your excellent choice of quotation - sorry, never heard of the film - it's an inspirational act of randomness)

    Fun A, B, C's Of Film Titles

Up the Junction Very downbeat but gripping Sixties drama - fewer laughs than Alfie (which is always darker than I remember), but same sort of territory. And lent it's title to a pretty good song.

Thank you - I'm really chuffed you did that! Electrodes in the neck are all very well, but THAT wig must have been a chore and a half to act under.

Genevieve - a cherished 50s comedy - two couples on the London-to-Brighton annual veteran car rally. They drive to Brighton. They spend the night there. They return. It's like saying The Princess Bride is about a couple having issues..covers the bases, doesn't quite do it justice.

    Review The Whittaker Doctor

All 3 wonderful performers, but if you were any of them, would your diary be clear to do it for the next 3 years, or would you want to walk into that particular bear-pit? Would the world be ready for a more mature female Doctor and her teenage, laddy sidekick?

Review Classic Movies You've Never Seen!

Thank you too - on the other hand I now realise I didn't actually answer the question that started the thread: So, on my one-day maybe list: Jaws The large chunk of Gone with the Wind between about 15 minutes in and five from the end (just something about Boxing Day I can't put my finger on)...

    Review The Whittaker Doctor

He would - you just know he would.... On the other hand, I'm sure Warwick Davis would be happy to frock up and oblige - giver that he's already Known To Who as a slightly displaced galactic emperor in need of moral support; well - I just found his identical, militant, post-op sister in need of a...

    Review The Whittaker Doctor

A magnificent surprise - plenty of white, male, British actors around who could ace it. The recent winning formula is either someone quite unknown, or very well-known for something completely different. Why mess with a winning formula?

nasty Crystal Pepsi Damn! Isn't that fearsomely expensive, as well as highly illegal? I think we still only have fully-leaded and diet Pepsi over here.

Ah, now I get it! Don't think we've had that in the UK yet, although lipsynching has now arrived, so it's only a matter of time. The sorts of reality show I worry about (but can't help watching) tend to feature professionals on their uppers being bailed out by a Big Name- they might get shouted...

Very true, Doc, and so is this Kong locatin anecdote: So Andy Serkis said to Sir Peter, "Look I still think it'll be better if we put the fur on after the motion capture" (alt-) FACT

They came for our salad cream and we said "bog off - sometimes mayonnaise is just WRONG" They told us to call Marathons Snickers and we said "they look a lot smaller these days". They banned beef on the bone for years, but I had a butcher who knew I meant business in oxtail soup season. ps...

    Fun Universal Monsters

Lugosi gave himself to the role 100% - perhaps way too far for comfort; Chaney was so hugely versatile. And given that Karloff found the Monster a very limiting piece of typecasting, I wouldn't force him to be in at my number 1 or 2. Some serious respect added for Elsa Lanchester if that's...
