Agreed. If Jodie and Chibnall had been any kind of true success the BBC would be getting that next series in production for next year, pronto and making any concessions and offers to get Jodie to commit to a full run of 10 or more. Plus the Christmas special would still be a solid fixture. Also they would be itching to make a spin off sister show of some kind, like they did with Torchwood and the SJA.
But one measly episode on the very first day of next year? Just so they can say that WHO was on the air in 2019. Pathetic.
Then 5 or 6 episodes only in 2020? Before - presumably - a regeneration?
And Jodie suddenly realised that she was a single Mum and wasn't able to commit to full runs, while Chibnall suddenly realised that he found making ten episodes a year a bit trying.
Cover stories, methinks.
And this year's DOCTOR WHO annual is still just a large, unsold pile on my local bookshop's store.....
I think the poor merchandise sales is key to the closing down of this era. Which I think is what is happening - unofficially.
