Fun The James Bond Movies!

Lazenby's wife is killed.
Connery gets revenge for it.
Moore visits her grave.
It gets mentioned by Felix while Dalton is at a wedding.

I am gonna forego the "BOND is a codename" theory and instead go with the "Bond is a Time Lord" theory.
I always think of Doctor Who in those terms too!

The Old Man steals the TARDIS and escapes from Gallifrey!
The Hobo gets caught and stands trial for it!
The Dandy serves the sentence and is eventually pardoned for it!
The Bohemian is allowed to continue his adventures without probation!

Bond Future Unclear Due To MGM Sale?

bond-future-unclear-due-to-mgm-sale-696x464.jpg

It looks like the James Bond franchise could be used as bait in a potential studio sale reports THR. The sudden departure of MGM CEO Gary Barber a few weeks ago has led to talk of MGM going on the block and its most valuable property, the Bond franchise, set to be a major selling point of any potential deal.

At last report, it seemed Annapurna had scored the domestic rights to the franchise, but that’s not the case and in fact both domestic and global rights have not yet been decided on. The delay over the decision to not only find a new home for 007 but also to select a new CEO has led to all the potential sell-off talk.

The MGM library generates about $300 million a year in revenue, the Bond franchise is said to be worth between $1-3 billion, and MGM recently purchased Epix which is valued at $1 billion. As a result, a sale price for the studio would be in the $6+ billion range. Sony is said to be interested and has the money for it.

Whatever the case, with production on the next Bond film due to start around year’s end under the helm of Danny Boyle, MGM will have to make a big decision soon about its future.

Why is it so difficult for one studio to make one film every two years as the latest adventure in one of the world's biggest ever movie franchises?

Those were the days - when the above was a given!

Inappropriate, Mr Bond - Scenes you won't see in a modern day Bond film

I take a look at the scenes that would be deemed inappropriate in this day and age, and will certainly not be appearing in a new Bond film any time soon. They might make you laugh by just how inappropriate they are to us nowadays or simply display to you how society has changed over the years. One things for sure though, they will certainly make you wince! This is not a definitive list, but is made up of the scenes that come to mind when I think of actions or lines Bond delivered which would be out of place in the modern day.

Inappropriate or not... surely this is (essentially) the Bond of the books?

So - if he can't be the Bond of the books anymore, is there any point - beyond financial gain - in even continuing the James Bond film franchise?

Coz at some point, surely the Bond on screen is gonna end up totally unrecognisable to a reader of the Fleming books?

If that hasn't already happened?

Might it not be best to leave Bond where he belongs - in the pages of the Fleming canon - and invent a new hero who has all the sensibilities that film makers are currently imposing - inappropriately - on poor old 007?

I always assumed MGM had died years ago!!! I mean the MGM DVDs that come out these days are released by 20th Century Fox and even have their authentic number on each set and disc!

I would probably get killed by Huge Drax's henchman, Blowjob, while watching the above survival video.

A terrible and tragically ironic way to die. :emoji_head_bandage:

There Won’t Be A Female James Bond

there-wont-be-a-female-james-bond-696x464.jpg

The James Bond franchise has always been a family business and has been ruled by executive producer Barbara Broccoli for decades now, taking over from her father Albert ‘Cubby’ Broccoli and fiercely protective of the brand and films.

She signs off on every key Bond decision and that control makes her not only one of the most powerful women in the film business but has ensured the longevity of the franchise – when it comes to this character she knows what she’s talking about.

Speaking with The Guardian this week, she tackled one topic that gets brought up every now and then on social media – the possibility of a female James Bond. Her answer? It isn’t going to happen:

“Bond is male. He’s a male character. He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as a male. And that’s fine. We don’t have to turn male characters into women. Let’s just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters.”

She also says despite the changes made to Bond over the years, it cannot and probably never will be considered a feminist property as:

“[People] reference those early movies. It was written in the 50s, so there’s certain things in [Bond’s] DNA that are probably not gonna change. But look at the way the world has changed. And I think Bond has come through and transformed with the times. I’ve tried to do my part, and I think particularly with the Daniel [Craig] films, they’ve become much more current in terms of the way women are viewed.”

Indeed her close involvement with the series has been credited as to making the sets of Bond films one of the safest workplaces for women in terms of film sets, and when asked about the possibility of a female director or writer for the series she says: “As a female producer, of course I’d like to do that.”

Cary Fukunaga helms the next Bond film, Daniel Craig’s fifth and likely final outing, which is due for release February 2020.

Survey: Black 007 Fine, Gay or Female Not

survey-black-007-fine-gay-or-female-not-696x464.jpg

Daniel Craig still has one more James Bond film in him to shoot next year, but once that’s done the question will once again turn to the recasting of the role and where the series will go next.

Survey company Morning Consult recently conducted a survey of Americans and how they feel about the British superspy and, more importantly, whom they would be happy with in terms of recasting.

In terms of specific names mentioned, a whopping 63% approved and only 21% opposed the casting of Idris Elba in the role, even after the actor himself struck down those rumors earlier this year.

In terms of demographics though, this is where the divide begins. Support for a black James Bond is high with 52% supporting and 29% opposing, a far better result than a Hispanic 007 (39% for/39% against) and an Asian 007 (37% for/41% against).

The idea of female Bond though? While the approval rate hovers at 37% the opposing rate shoots up to 48%. The idea that readers are really against though? A gay James Bond with only 28% approving and 52% opposing.

Classic Bonds were polled with Sean Connery the highest with an 82% approval rating followed closely by Pierce Brosnan (81%), Roger Moore (74%), Daniel Craig (71%), Timothy Dalton (49%) and George Lazenby (31%). Connery and Moore dominated the Top Ten with five and four films respectively.

That top ten: “Goldfinger,” “From Russia with Love,” “Live and Let Die,” “Diamonds are Forever,” “For Your Eyes Only,” “Casino Royale,” “You Only Live Twice,” “The Man with the Golden Gun,” “Dr. No” and “The Spy Who Loved Me”. The bottom five consisted of “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” “Quantum of Solace,” “Moonraker,” “Spectre” and “The Living Daylights”.

Why do they have to even suggest changing him? Changing doctor Who into a woman has been a great success hasn't it?? Making 007 black means it will be a totally new character and not the suave spy from the sixties/seventies/eighties/nineties and the rest! It's like we have to give in to a group of people out to destroy the image of our heroes!!! Black people are not bothered with the idea and I have seen a video where a black guy laughs at the suggestion of a black bond as stupid! so why do they do it?

James Bond is not black, gay or female.

If someone wants to make a film about a spy who is one or more of these things, then by all means create a new and original character.

If the film is any good, it will get a sequel. In fact, these days, it'll probably get a sequel regardless of how good or bad it is.

So glad there's no Who next year! Which proves how successful Mrs.Who really has been doesn't it? I still can't believe that they did it, although I am now not guilty in any way for not watching it anymore! This thing about changing our characters to adapt to the new ways of the new epoch are pathetic! They did it to Who because they could but 007 has a bit more cash and power behind it and Star Trek too perhaps?
