Zacnary Quinto: No Guarantee Star Trek 4 Will Happen:

News of Star Trek 4 officially being in development first surfaced last summer. Producer J.J. Abrams confirmed work on the sequel and revealed it would somehow bring back Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk, the father of James T. Kirk who perished in exciting opening sequence of the first installment of the reboot that established a whole new timeline in the Star Trek universe. Since then all we’ve heard is vague hype about the sequel, and it sounds like the cast is unsure whether it will actually happen.

In a recent interview, Star Trek franchise star Zachary Quinto says that he’s still waiting for the script to be completed, and despite being hopeful that he’ll be able to reprise his role as Mr. Spock, the movie doesn’t seem to have been greenlit yet. Find out more about Star Trek 4 development after the jump.

Zachary Quino recently appeared on The Today Show to discuss his lower profile drama Aardvark, and discussion eventually turned to Star Trek 4. Here’s what the actor had to say:

“I know that they are working on a script for another one and we’ll see how that all plays out, but the nice thing about that experience is that the time in between those big tentpole films allows us to go off and cultivate a lot of different creative experiences for ourselves. … I’m hopeful that we’ll do another one, but there’s no guarantee.”

To be fair, when it comes to development on these projects, actors usually don’t know what’s going with the movie unless they’re also producers. The actors aren’t really needed until there’s a script finished for them to get in front of the camera and shoot. Quinto seems to be in the same boat that Chris Pine is when he said this about three weeks ago when he was asked about the state of Star Trek 4:

“I am literally one of the last people to find out. Costume designers find out before me. Prop people find out before me. I can’t wait to make the film. I love everyone in the film. You know that. I love the world. I will be back as many times as they ask me. I love the tall man they call Thor. I’ll do this film. If you can talk to [Star Trek producer] J.J. [Abrams] for me, please do. Let him tell me. I’d like to find out so I can plan my life.”

More than likely, Paramount Pictures isn’t in a rush to get the script done and they want to make sure they have something worth making before they get the rest of the pieces in place. The good news is that Chris Hemsworth said the pitch for the movie is “amazing” and J.J. Abrams says it might be his “favorite Star Trek story that we’ve had.” So if that’s true, Paramount will want to greenlight it.

Despite the positivity, there is some reasonable uncertainty as to whether or not Star Trek 4 will get made. Though Star Trek Beyond wasn’t exactly a disappointment at the box office when it pulled in over $343 million last year, it’s significantly less than the $467 million that Star Trek Into Darkness made in 2013, showing the studio that interest in the franchise may be waning.

As of now, it doesn’t sound like Star Trek 4 is definitively in trouble, but it’s merely still in development (Simon Pegg and Doug Jung were apparently working on the script most recently). When working on a film, actors don’t often like to count their chickens before they’re hatched, so Zachary Quinto is probably just playing it safe by keeping hype in check. With no release date set (as far as we know), Star Trek 4 doesn’t have to hit any specific deadline to start shooting, but hopefully we’ll get an update on the sequel soon.

Star Trek XI The Wrath Of Kirk ( Re cut fan trailer)

I would have paid good money to see this instead of Generations....

Old, forgotten, and rejected; Captain Kirk and his devoted crew must make way for The Next Generation, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his crew.
Kirk is not willing to accept retirement, and rebels against Starfleet, taking his Enterprise with him.
Now the battle is on; both Enterprises in an epic struggle for survival.
Who will prevail?

I think all the characters should have a moustache in the next film. Just all have moustaches and there's no reference to why.

STATUS UNCERTAIN is a very cool title - repeal and replace Pegg and I might summon up some interest...

Clearly the Enterprise sat-nav is on the blink and they've hit the galactic equivalent of driving right into the overflowing ford the guiding voice failed to announce, and they are now in the equivalent of the muddy field beyond with sewage drenching the dilithium crystals. Who to blame? What to do? Why is that irate farmer pointing his shotgun at the landing party?

The crew have been put to sleep by an alien race. In their state of unconsciousness, one of them was forced to marry.

They now have to work out who it was and update their Facebook status to save the earth. It's a race against time.

Star Trek 4: Status Uncertain.

Or do they just beam it out?

Given how sterilised the Federation feels, it wouldn't surprise me.

Dieting must also be easy in the future. Eat a massive slap-up meal... beam it onto the bin as soon as you're done eating.

Somewhere, I have a battered copy of the Starfleet Manual, which has ship schematics, and shows that they do indeed have toilets. And there's actually a door on the bridge of the NCC-1701D that is labeled "Head". They just never show them going, which led to Cochran's comment in Star Trek: First Contact. And, of course, as @Doctor Omega pointed out, it finally got addressed in Enterprise.

This sounds like a combination of STAR TREK - THE MOTION PICTURE (1979), STAR TREK IV - THE VOYAGE HOME (1986) and STAR TREK V - THE FINAL FRONTIER (1989).
Correction. It sounds like a combination of the worst aspects of those films (although I'm not convinced that there are any other aspects to ST5)

Zachary Quinto Says Star Trek 4 Script Still Being Written

Star-Trek-Beyond-Spock-poster-header.jpg

Actor Zachary Quinto confirms that the screenplay for Paramount’s planned Star Trek 4 is still in the process of being written. To say that it’s an interesting time for the Star Trek property right now would be an understatement. After all, not only is the franchise set to return to the small screen this year with CBS All Access’ Star Trek Discovery, but following the low-key reception that Star Trek Beyond was met with last year, the future of the franchise on the big screen has been stuck in a strangely mysterious state. All of the franchise’s main actors — including Zoe Saldana — have been quick to express their excitement about returning for Star Trek 4, but there has been a curious lack of any official announcements or updates in the time since Beyond‘s theatrical release.

What’s more is that last year, ahead of the release of Beyond, producer and former franchise director J.J. Abrams announced a fourth film and even went on to tease the film’s story, which would include the unlikely return of Chris Hemsworth as the father of Chris Pine’s James T. Kirk. And as of right now, it doesn’t look like the fourth installment in the current Star Trek film franchise has yet to move beyond the initial screenwriting phase, with cast member Pegg writing the script.

The small update comes during a recent interview that Spock actor, Zachary Quinto, gave with ET Online. After lamenting about the lack of official announcements, Quinto said that as far as he knows, the script for the film is still being written and that he and the other actors are just waiting on an official call from Abrams and co.:

“If I had [an update] I would give it to you. I’m expecting [the news of a fourth movie] to be true, but it’s always this way. It’s like, ‘Yes, we’re going to do it!’ but then there’s always a process — writing a script being primary among them — and I know that’s what they’re working on now. I think we’re all really excited to go back and we’ll do that whenever the phone rings and it’s J.J. on the other end.”

Despite the surprisingly low amount of attention that it managed to stir up for itself last year, many fans considered BEYOND to be a welcome return to form for the film franchise, and as a heartfelt, effective homage to the original 1960s TV series. That film was directed by former Fast & Furious helmer, Justin Lin, and there’s no telling as of right now, if Lin will return at the helm of Star Trek 4, or if not, who

Depending on just how long it takes for progress to be made on it, though, it’s entirely possible that the film’s cast members and its story could change and evolve as more and more time goes on. But for right now, it looks like the real question for Star Trek 4 is not whether it will happen, but when.

Star Trek 4 does not have an official release date yet.

I have a feeling that this film is not going to happen.

If Discovery were not around, it might, but I get the sense that the time of the Abrams movie era is over.

I only want to see this film if they can somehow come up with a lot where this alternate timeline disappears and the prime timeline remains... unaltered.

Unless they can come up with a way to get rid of DISCOVERY too!
