Review Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983)

An episodic storyline and a few confusing shifts in narrative sometime distract from a highly entertaining end to a superb trilogy. New characters the Ewoks will appeal to younger viewers (but may irritate some older fans)

Review Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)

Filled with memorable moments and brilliantly realised characters and is perfect family fare with a little extra for older viewers

Review Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979)

It plumps for a thoughtful story with special effects over action-packed thrills so, for me, the result is mixed- but more positive than many will have you think; boosted by great production values and a fine score by Jerry Goldsmith too

Review Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)

Much improved over TOD. First off, there's River Phoenix. There’s also great interplay between the father-and-son duo, so I'm very pro-Connery!

Review Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)

This was, for me, too much of a 'kiddie's' pic. Very juvenile, I liked it more when I was 10 years old!

    Review Tron (1982)

The visual effects are the main reason for watching this light-headed, clumsy fantasy caper which benefits from the presence of Bridges. Its all very dated now; the remake was only okay.

Review Planet of the Apes (1968)

For me, it works both as enjoyable fantasy and social allegory. Bona-fide classic imo. The Tim Buron remake was an atrocity:emoji_rage:

    Review The Black Hole (1979)

I think it was a STAR WARS wannabe and also ripped off 2001 and FORBIDDEN PLANET. Schell is basically a clone of Captain Nemo. Definitely not underrated imo

Review Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

Cracking family escapism made in the tradition of old Saturday matinee serials. Ford is perfectly cast and the film is packed full of thrilling sequences with a breakneck pace that never lets up. Sit back, suspend disbelief and enjoy!!

    Review Return to Oz (1985)

Fairly sombre and dark sequel but Balk was well cast as Dorothy. It’s impossible to compare it to the peerless original but judged on its own merits it’s refreshingly unsentimental and technically top-notch. The muted tone is countered intermittently by a few colourful characters but it's far...

    Review Ghostbusters (1984)

I thought it (the original) was laced with great humour and some terrific, sardonic wit (especially from a deadpan Murray). It's perfect family entertainment. Shame about the sequel and remake.

    Review Dirty Dancing (1987)

It's a superb romantic drama with charismatic performances and an overall exuberance (with splendid dance scenes choreographed by Kenny Ortega) whilst also working as a frank coming-of-age tale. Some of the dialogue is terrifically cringeworthy, however!

    Review Adolf Hitler

Certain places around the world have kinda been reliving them in 2017!

    Review Barry Manilow

I always just assumed he was gay. Don't really see the point of coming out like that when your in your mid 70s. Or, I maybe just don't see the point! He hasn't been relevant in decades. Sad that it took him so long to do.

    Review NCIS (2003)

Sigh, CRIMINAL MINDS renewed for a 13th season today. Meanwhile HANNIBAL gets cancelled and THE LEFTOVERS has only one more season:emoji_disappointed:

    Review Snowden (2016)

I've seen conflicting reviews on this. Has Oliver Stone lost his mojo? Some said it's very vanilla for a Stone pic, but Levitt is watchable is everything he does.

    Fun Your Favourite Films?

Airplane 2 and Hangover 2 are the laziest sequels you'll ever see. They just remake the first film with a few alterations. Cut and paste job:emoji_confounded:

Review Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977)

Also, I'd watch anything with Max von Sydow. Loved him in Game of Thrones recently:emoji_grinning:

    Review NCIS (2003)

Yeah I used to watch SVU myself. Mariska Hargitay is pleasing to the eye too! There must be just millions of old people who watch these shows. Only way to explain the massive ratings.
