Very interesting indeed! Call me a sour grape but I'd much prefer it that a Moffat Doctor Who episode had that type of degradation on it than something that had had a lot of genuine work and effort put into it! Yet strangely his 'work' is preserved and in no danger of being damaged or destroyed...
