Battle Creek Brawl (aka The Big Brawl) (1980) Not really an "international" film, as it was a Warner Brothers (Hollywood) effort, directed and shot in the U.S. by a U.S. crew and (mostly) U.S. cast. Filmed in English (not dubbed). I guess that since everyone spoke English, it doesn't matter...

Tokyo Gore Police (2008) Well. It's presumably set in Tokyo. There are police. And there is certainly gore. Or at least lots of blades and saws and teethy arms/legs cutting through obviously fakey rubber suits and appendages to allow for copious amounts of blood to spray out and cover...

I absolutely did not see it coming. I assumed the dead fiance was just part of the cop's past that formed his character. Like Riggs in Lethal Weapon. Drinking. Overwhelmed with guilt. Until the reveal that the cop was working with his fiance's sister, who was "college girl." That caught me...

The Vanished (2018) Ok, I just got through watching it. I had no problem with the acting. And I thought it was a pretty good mystery. Kept me guessing, that's for sure. Each "reveal" scene managed to catch me by surprise. Since everyone participating here has seen it, I'm not going to...

News So............should I go or should I go?

Go!!! And have fun. I'm trying to think who I've paid money to see in person. The author Stephen King comes to mind. I did have a date with Drew Barrymore, though, back about 20 years ago. Well, sortof a date. We had a playful time together.

Were you drunk? :emoji_dizzy_face: Normally I would say it's not a "mistake" or an "oops" to have a widely divergent opinion on a movie. And there sure are a lot of 10/10 Best! Movie! Evah! reviews on IMDB for this. But all I can say in this instance is that y'all must be on crack...

Silk (2006) Taiwan This is a terrible movie. Sci-fi / mystery / ghost horror mash up that serves each genre poorly. Something about a gravity-defying "Menger sponge" and a ghost boy with white eyes that you better not look at. And a silk thread, which I never did understand. The script is...

Based on this recommendation, I put Drug War toward the top of my Netflix queue, and got a chance to watch it tonight. I agree on all counts. Johnnie To always comes up with new and clever ways to make a police or gangster movie interesting and inventive. I've really developed a liking for...

Not exactly. When best bud comes back to Korea, he basically sees pretty boy and his ex going around in circles trying to figure out who Rainbow is. Maybe he feels a little guilty, so he drops the clue. (He literally drops the clue--if you'd seen it, you'd know what I was talking about). But...

Unbeknownst to both of them, "Rainbow" is the Jin-young Jang character; or, as you put it, the The key to the whole mystery is the best bud, who left for the states toward the beginning of the movie. He knew that pretty boy had a secret crush on Jang. But since Jang became best bud's...

I'll take this one; I'll be glad to do that for you. I'm slammed at work, but I'll give you the rundown tonight (my time) or tomorrow. I'll step through the clues and coincidences. Just throwing out a name won't mean anything without the surrounding context.

Well, as I noted, the last 20 minutes brought it up half a star (from a 2.5 to a 3). So not a wowzer, just a nice warm glow. You won't fall off your chair. I kept at it, through the mucky parts, because I wanted to know who Rainbow was, dammit! And what sort of relationship they did or did...

News Sion Sono Suffers (doesn't die from) Heart Attack

I forgot to ask last time...now that I've just seen Love Exposure (and Cold Fish a while back), which of his movies should I watch next? If you recall my review posted on Jan 19, I gave Love Exposure some pretty good raves at 4 stars.

Yes, the last 20 minutes really pulled it up. I love how Korean movies have those serendipitous moments where one minor decision or a glance in the right direction at the right time (or the wrong direction at the wrong time) can set the course for love ever after...or not. I can't go higher...

Reincarnation (2005) J-horror by the same guy who did the Ju-on movies. (Takashi Shimizu) @ebossert loved this. His 8/10 review on IMDb conveys what he appreciated about the film. It was a good read (I only read it after I watched the film), and I admire the passion. It ended up in my...

Over the Rainbow (2002) Korean romantic drama that stars fashion model Jung-jae Lee (The Housemaid; Il Mare; Asako in Ruby Shoes; and many more) and the late Jin-young Jang (Sorum; Singles; Scent of Chrysanthemums). Lee gets "minor amnesia" after a car accident. He can remember everything...

I also liked this a lot. I gave it 4 stars. I like Argento. Out of the 7 films I've seen of his (Opera, Phenomena, Tenebre, Inferno, Suspiria, Deep Red, and The Bird with the Crystal Plumage), Inferno is the only one I didn't really care for. I'd rate Opera up there near the top. 4 stars.

Ha! It sure does. There must have been concurrent productions. Or the Koreans got a hold of the script. I don't think a movie (Lobster Cop) could be released in June of last year and then Korea see it and then remakes it by this January. Casting alone takes a while, and then filming...
