Fun IMDB: The Site We Left Behind....

Heavily moderated forums have a tendency to slowly but surely veer to the left and become very dull safe spaces. Hi Hux, Puzzled by that comment - left-veering but dull and safe...? Doubt Trotsky would see it that way, but maybe you've been on boards beyond my ken. I'd love to know what you...

    Review Medici: Masters of Florence

Thanks for that - I've heard of the Ken Follet book but not got hold of it yet - have you tried the Heaven Tree trilogy?

Review The Strangest Films You Have Ever Seen!

Not sure if I can cope with a brand new series without a complete re-watch... but at least I think I can still find my Welcome to Twin Peaks guidebook with original cherry pie recipe. I remember a friend had a Twin Peaks costume party, and I went as Diane... who could argue?

    Fun Your Favourite Films?

Damn, yes! The dudes in that waiting room could give anyone the heebie-jeebies. And, oh, yes - EVERYTHNG ELSE! Great film - when you don't know whether to cackle or to gibber and do both - good choice! Anyone like to comment whether Sexy Beast counts? Found myself watching it at a family...

    Review Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Hi Doc - thoughts, memories and opinions a-plenty - all on tap and all yours for the asking. Huge joy of the first show I ever totally bought on VHS. Not sure I'm completely word-perfect, but any time you wanna go, give it your best shot from Amy-Rat to the Zeppo...

    Review Ghostwatch (1992)

Dim memories of being pants-wettingly scared. But to put that into context, I whetted my horror teeth on Noggin the Nogg, The Singing Ringing Tree, Ace of Wands and VERY early Doctor Who - I mean Yetis on the Underground, Daemons and the like. And that's only the stuff that was age-appropriate...

    Review Medici: Masters of Florence

Medici? Damn! I don't do the Netflix thing....are you sure you're not watching the Borgias with shonky subtitles, my friend?

    Review Blazing Saddles (1974)

Great trailer, Drifter - but what's your most-used quote from the film? Sometimes it's "Frontier gibberish" for me, sometimes "Candygram for Mongo" can be surprisingly versatile as a gentle warning ....

    Review Father Brown (2013)

Hi Sunflower - but I'm beginning to think that Father Brown's parish is going to run through more police chiefs than Midsomer has corpses... blink and they've changed again. I will totally miss the IMDb ranters whose frothing complaints about the show displayed (for me) a total failure to...

Fun IMDB: The Site We Left Behind....

Anyone else remember the very olden days of the BBC boards? I only ever went to play on the Buffy board there and was very sad when they were closed - for economy savings rather than nastiness as far as I know. Then I had lots of fun playing on a bespoke Being Human board before it was retired...

    Review M*A*S*H (1972)

Agree totally, but Max was too smart to keep it up forever (he might finally have succeeded in wearing Henry down though...). But I get it that, back then, Jamie Farr didn't want his kids to be bullied at school because their dad was on TV in a frock. What for you was his best Section 8 stunt...

    Review Father Brown (2013)

Love it! Shame it's tucked away during afternoons, but murder + strawberry scones + gentle discomforture of small-minded official detectives by an amateur sleuth and his team is a very respectable tradition - but I would ideally like a few more Flambeau appearances for my money.

Fun What TV Shows Are You Watching/Rewatching at the Moment?

Crazyhead and The Windsors (both made by Channel 4) couldn't be more different but equally hilarious to me. Hope you can track one or both of them down and let me know what you think...

thanks again for the soothing support. Not sure I'm ready to attempt an avatar yet - plus I'll have to choose one first and I'm torn between 3 right now

Review The Strangest Films You Have Ever Seen!

I'd expected both Fire Walk With Me and, much later, Tideland to be weird in their ways, but they were so much weirder than I was ready for... so I had to expand my weirdness receptors to cope - much better than a popcorn experience any day. Strangest of all was the 3 day event of seeing...

    Review The Wicker Man (1973)

Good thinking - swiftest conversion on record from paganism to born-again atheist - in mid air. I want a Mel Brooks remake now, please.

    Review The Wicker Man (1973)

Not at all sure about Willow, but if they really had run out of handy virgins, the traditional sacrifice would have to be their king or nearest equivalent- somehow don't see that working well once they'd figured that out...

Review The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)

Uplifting and reassuring dragon-lore, Elessar: it's just the 60 ish years of giant wyrm guano just out of sight under the top layer of gold that worries me.... still Freud was very keen to equate gold and poo, so who am I to complain how high Smaug stacked both?
