Review Would You Rather Wait to See a Great, Old, Classic Movie in a Rare Theater-Showing...

...and run the risk of having it spoiled for you little by little on the internet as you wait, or would you just watch it on the small screen to prevent this?

I run into this dilemma often. Really mad that I know now the ending to Diabolique without having seen it, because I was hoping to catch it at some art house or university.

Well considering we barely (less than that) get any classic movie back in the theater over here I just watch it at home. In my lifetime I can only recall me going to the theater to watch a classic film a handful of times.

Yeah, I'd do the same in those circumstances. Where I live we get just enough classic film revivals to make them worth holding out for, but not so many that I haven't had a lot of old films spoiled for me beforehand. :(

Well I'll say this, I assume most movies that return to theaters are usually really good so re-watching them isn't always a bad thing ;)

These days, my "small screen" is a bloody great widescreen TV, so I lose nothing by watching a film or a TV series on it.

I run into this dilemma often. Really mad that I know now the ending to Diabolique without having seen it, because I was hoping to catch it at some art house or university.

I always prefer to watch films or TV shows in the comfort of my own home.

There's no one sitting behind me, talking all the way through my viewing experience and if I feel like a cup of tea or making a visit to the toilet, no one complains when I pause the DVD or HDD recording.

As much as I'd like to see good old film in theaters, we have so few theaters that do this anymore. I know Fathom Events does some every now and then, but with our "big-ass" tv and sound system, it's even better because I can watch in the comfort of my own home. But nothing can beat seeing a film on the Big Screen.

PS - Diabolique was amazing!!!! The original, not the remake.

I also run into the issue that where I live, there are no revival theatres. Everything is first run, with the exception of one theatre in Des Moines that shows some cult films (I think they still do The Rocky Horror Picture Show every Saturday night). Most of my film viewing is done at home these days, just because I'm poor.

My God, that's dedication.

I guess it's more a Generation X thing to hold out for theaters, with big screens in homes and hardly any revival theaters nowadays. I can remember when it was different.

I do all of my viewing at home, because I'm poor too.

However, if I was rich, I'd still do all of my viewing at home.

I'd just have a bigger home with a bigger widescreen TV in it. ;)

I often pause the TV programs or films that I'm watching, to do other things. Not all the time, but often enough that I've noticed my behaviour.

However, I figure that so long as I get back to it within a week, there's no harm done. :D

Don't have that dilemma any more, thanks to a 150" screen made from recycled bill board. a used projector, a bluray player and my old Techniques receiver. I just back the wife's expedition out of the garage and presto, my own personal theater. I have been collecting a few classics to view on the big screen; Casablanca, Rear Window, Maltese Falcon, North by North West as well as some newer classics Dazed and Confused and Fargo. Add to this the new Pop Corn Machine I got for Christmas and I don't really need the theater any more. No more distractions from the person in front of me texting and the couple behind me chiming in with unwanted commentary.

CASABLANCA, REAR WINDOW, MALTESE FALCON, NORTH BY NORTHWEST and FARGO are all in my DVD collection.

I like the idea of a popcorn machine, but it would be very unwise of me to purchase one, because I have no problem in eating my own bodyweight in popcorn during a film session. And I haven't been to a cinema in years due to mobile phones and moronic movie commentaries...

Rare cinema screening every time. Saw It's a Wonderful Life on the big screen a few years back. Just magical.

Like to catch classic movies when they are re-released. Over the last few years caught classics such as Alien, Jaws and The Terminator during re-releases. Always reminds me why cinema is best.

Most of the theaters around me run only the current films. But, I prefer the comforts of home.
No screaming kids running up & down the isles, talking on cell phones, you know the rest
It has 2 be a very important film (to me) for me to go out to see the film. Perfect example:
Beauty and the Beast. I have already made arrangements to see it, I'm to inpatient to wait 4 it
to hit DVD or streaming.

Never understood why people will just spoil endings without first asking the other person if they have seen the film and if they intend to. Just stupid and rude. And no, it doesn't matter how old it is.

The film is so brilliant through here! I feel ansty in my pantsy when they do that reveal. And after Spock gets aboard ship, it turns into an hour and a half of talking. I like my Trek to be cerebral, philosophical, and even talky, but there has to be some sort of action going on.

Of course, we know what action can bring...
