@duzit I dislike trying to cut, copy, paste using my fingers on a tablet so much I never do it, so I can't help with any tips there. But doing a 'mention' is fairly easy, I think. First, type an @ symbol, and then (without a space),start typing the username you want to mention. I believe it takes three letters and then you'll get a little pop up of users you can choose from. Try that.

And maybe I'm not understanding your point, but this forum has a 'quick reply' while using an iPad.

@duzit ... not sure if this is helpful:
If you tap the Login with email option and have the Google+ app installed on your phone, you will see the option to login with your Google Account. If you do not have the Google+ app installed, then you will have the option to login with either Facebook or your email account. You can continue to login using your Gmail account, but you will need to reset your Tapatalk password. You can find a link to reset your password in the Log In screen.

Install the Google+ App

If you want to continue to enjoy the convenience of Single Sign-On with your Google Account, download the Google+ App.

We apologize for any inconvenience this change at the App store may cause you, and we hope you’ll continue to enjoy all your favorite forums on Tapatalk.
I think this logs you into a Tapatalk account, not necessarily this forum. I don't want to soil myself by actually logging in or using Tapatalk to look around so I can't be of more help, sorry.

[update] oh, sorry, it looks like you've already gotten that far.

I'm using a Galaxy 4 (NOOK) Android tablet. Not very sofisticàted. I'm not very tech savy & can be a little thick. Where am I to put the @ sign doing a mention. If there is a "quick reply" I do not see it. At the other forum I belong to there is a button for it. I have found instructions for C&P online and will try it. Thanks...♡

I know that. I log in here using my Google info w no problem. When I use my Google pw @ TT trying to log into the forum, I get incorrect pw. When I look up my pw here under profile, it says I don't have one, asked for one to be emailed, so that's what I did. TT isn't recognizing my Google pw.
Ok, that makes more sense. I can get you a password but you have to change it asap afterwards so that you are the only one that knows.

You put the @username in the field where you write the post. So when I do that with your name it will result in a mention like this: @duzit and the system will pick up names when you start typing, for example to mention sitenoise, you type @sit and you will see this appear
Screenshot_22.png Then simply click that to finish the mention automatically or type the name if you know how to write it.

@duzit you type the @ symbol right at the beginning (or anywhere, really) of the message you want to reply with.

There may be some terminology issues here. First of all, at the bottom right of this message by me that you're reading there should the words 'like' and 'reply'. Tapping the Reply word will quote my whole message into message area you can type into. I think you're already hip to that.

What I call Quick Reply (or 'the devil' for short) is at the bottom of every page of posts. If you scroll all the way down you should see your avatar on the left (update - you probably won't see your Avatar on the Nook), and a message window for you to type a quick reply into filling the screen to its right. It won't quote anything and the person you're replying to won't be notified unless you @mention them. But it is Quick!

When you want to quote a specific part and select said text, a reply button should appear like this:
Screenshot_23.png

Click that and it will appear in the box below where you can then write the rest of your reply :)

Thank you for helping out too @sitenoise

Thanks to both of you, this is a test

@DeJoHnNiE
Okay, I just looked at this on my phone. I wasn't sure what you meant by "Desktop" version. Now I think I do. Your Nook probably looks like my phone looks, NOT how my iPad looks. Yeah, it's a little different world. You should still have what I call the Quick Reply field at the bottom, for just tweeting a response with no quotations or notification (unless you @mention someone).

@mentioning someone won't quote anything, but I think you understand that now, given your "test" message.

As for selectively quoting, as @DeJoHnNiE points out above, you still have to deal with how to select the text (as you would if you wanted to copy it). That part's a bitch. And different devices have different ways of doing it. Usually, if you tap and pause/hold on a word it will select the word, but then you have to do something to get more than a word selected. Like dragging impossible to hit little handlebars. Sometimes double tapping will select a sentence, triple tapping might select a paragraph. Maybe a pop up will give you options to expand the selection. This is where your manual may come in handy.

Ya, I was just practicing trying to hi-lite. It is a bitch, especially if your dexterity is a little shakey.

testing again, did your whole msg get sent back?

Now have a look at @DeJoHnNiE 's post above (which I'll quote below) for how to selectively quote a portion of a message. (assuming you get comfortable with selecting) gfd.gif

Yes it did. That's what happens if you just hit the "Reply" word/button in the lower right of the message you want to quote/reply to. You don't have to additionally @mention the person if you do that.
If I don't do a reply, how do you know which post I'm replying to...?

OK, let's see if I've got the why the mention use. If I'm in a thread & there's alot of (large) posts. Instead of replying to a specific post, I would do a mention to that person. This way said (large) post does not get re-sent. YES? This also a test for a mention

Yes, a @mention is a way to "notify" a person (assuming they have that setting turned on to be notified) that you have replied to them (without quoting their whole post). A selective quote/reply is another way to do that (as in not quoting a whole giant post just to say "thanks" or something).

You can imagine the scenario. If a thread is real busy, the post that you want to reply to might not be right above where you end up posting. So a @mention or a selective quote lets everyone know who and what you are talking about without messing things up too much by fully quoting big-ass posts.

Actually, I do not like Tapatalk. It seems like you have to create an account, then it lists lots of forums or something.

I suggested for users to just use the mobile version of this theme but there were some that were requesting Tapatalk.

I can completely remove Tapatalk if you want. You can also just ignore it and open the site as it is, it will rescale to mobile devices just fine.
