Another fabulous episode with Derren Nesbitt as Craig Collins, an old friend of Straker, between them they put SID, the UFO tracking satellite into Earth orbit.
Collins is in a craft heading for earth when a UFO attacks, it closes in on Collins, then communication is lost.
Collins is listed as missing presumed dead. Months later he is found, alive and well on a remote island in the pacific. Joy all round. But something is wrong, Collins seems different, he can now beat his superior officer Colonel Grey at chess, never done that before, his girlfriend Col. Lake is manhandled by him, and a blind man passing Collins on the studio parking lot is spooked by him.
SHADO psychiatrist Dr Jackson has carried out a medical on him and found something inexplicable.
Jackson has developed an isolation cabinet, he puts subjects inside it, and no outside particles can get in , cosmic rays, gamma rays or even Xrays, nothing. He wants to study the effect a total lack of stimulation has on the body. When Collins went in, there was no readings, nothing, the monitors didn't even pick up a heartbeat from Collins though he emerged from the cabinet okay.
Collins then is assigned to go up into orbit with Paul Foster to repair SID, damaged by the UFO that attacked Collins months ago. Collins and Foster train for the mission in the gym, when Collins accidentally (?) drops weights on top of Foster cracking a number of ribs. There is only one man now capable of partnering Collins into orbit, Ed Straker.
Col Grey confronts Collins,
G " Jackson put you in a cabinet, inside it you were isolated from all outside elements even radio waves"
C " what of it?"
G " inside that cabinet you were inert , a nothing, dead! I think the aliens snatched you , burnt out your personality centre, so they could control you with radio waves, and sent you back here as a guided missile to kill Ed Straker"
C " well now....if that really is the case you're wasting your time Colonel Grey, you can't reason with a robot"
Collins strikes Grey knocking him out. On with the plan ....to get Straker into orbit and kill him.
