This is a fun story, not because it's funny but because it's great watching the sadistic Number 2 played brilliantly by Patrick Cargill , slowly going from strong man to nervous wreck.
This Number 2 callously causes a woman to commit suicide by his over enthusiastic interrogation. The Prisoner wants revenge and realises this Number 2 has a flaw, he is petrified of Number 1 and losing his job. He gathered this when he was interrogated by 2, and Number 1 interrupted with a phone call, Number 2 seemed to be almost quaking, the tough guy image just a facade.
So The Prisoner has an idea, pretend he is a plant in the Village, really spying on Number 2, and see what happens.
The Prisoner concocts all sort of silly actions knowing Number 2 is watching the whole time on CCTV.
He buys a record from the music shop, and uses his watch to time it, 2 wonders why.
Hides blank sheets of paper.in the stone boat on the beach, 2 again wonders why, could they have a message written on them in invisible ink.
He calls up the Village shrink, and asks if his report on 2's mental health is ready. 2 hearing this is convinced The Prisoner is a spy sent by Number 1 to get him.
2 gradually descends into a nervous breakdown, a fitting act of revenge carried out by The Prisoner.
