but YES it might have a British telefantasy flavor for the next few shows.
Yes, I'm aware of that. If it's up to you, you'll probably only watch old British shows. Have you guys defines what shows you'll watch next, or which shows would be eligible to be chosen, besides being, you know, old and British?

As an Aussie, I'm perfectly willing to recommend a couple of good Aussie TV shows for viewing...

They're not science fiction, they're not very long and they're available on YouTube for free.

So far, I've heard TV shows from the UK, the USA and Australia suggested for future viewing.

That's sounds pretty promising to me.

Yes, I think you may be overthinking this "Brit" angle, Mad-Pac.

We are open to any and all shows.

All part of the fun.

(And we mustn't lose sight of the fun; kicking back and having a few laughs amongst the serious analytical discussion.)

I, for one, am looking forward to whatever we decide out of the eclectic suggestions that keep popping up here.

Looking forward to Altered Carbon which is coming to Netflix soon, I've never read the book but the series looks good.
I love the concept of digital selves and the problems that come with it.
It's been done in a few forms but I enjoyed the idea in Pandora's Star.

I really enjoyed both Babylon 5 and Blake's 7. Both seemed to lose a bit of steam by the late series and I must admit I didn't finish Babylon 5 (maybe I am missing out)
I would also include Deep Space 9 and to some degree the new Star Trek Discovery all have good people doing terrible things (I'm thinking specifically of the DS9 episode "In the Pale Moonlight")

I'm up for any view of the future if it feels well developed. Dystopian and Eutopian the reality is probably going to lie somewhere in the middle.
Do you have any personal preferences?

The only thing I'd ask is that it's available on YouTube, so that everyone who wants to join in can do so.

Have you seen any of THE ORVILLE yet, Cloister? It has returned to that comforting TNG feel of a future where humanity is working together and all is well.

I have missed that in DISCOVERY etc and find THE ORVILLE the more (comfortingly) entertaining show to watch, even though I agree with you that the reality will likely be somewhat different and will probably fall between the two extremes. :emoji_alien:

Of the ones that have been mentioned so far:

Starcops sounds very interesting, it's probably less well known. IT's something I would definitely want to watch. Only season 1 seems to be available on youtube.

Blake's 7 - I've only watched it through once and really enjoyed it. This would probably be one for the "do one season, vote to continue" idea to work with. Amazingly all 4 seasons appear to be on youtube.

Space 1999 - Another show I've been meaning to get round to. I watched an episode the other day and it's got a regular assignment for Rollin Hand

So that's always a big plus in my book.
Looking on youtube there doesn't appear to be a complete series for this.

Finally the Omega Factor, it was on my list to suggest before Twin Peaks. I can't remember if I did. A great show and not too many episodes.
Appears to be all up on youtube as well.

My guess would be it will come down to Blake's 7 or StarCops. At a glance Blake's 7 seems popular.
The voting process I took part in last time seemed to work well.

Actually previous viewings with The Sages have yielded a couple of shows that I liked so much I bought the DVDs. Earth 2 and Kolchak, both American!
I'll throw something else into the ring; Catweazle, 26 episodes of just 22 minutes in length. So if this is picked would we do two at a time, or one every three/four days. ?
I nominated this before and it came a creditable third in the final voting. Brimfin even gave it a 1st place vote.
A beautifully written drama from the golden age of kids tv.
A wizard from 1066 ends up in 1970 rural England and befriended by a boy.
Here Catweazle learns about matches.

There were only 9 episodes of STAR COPS ever made. All 9 are on YouTube.

48 full episodes of SPACE 1999, plus 1 mini-episode were made. I watched all 49 of them on YouTube last year.

Star Cops is only one season, and yes its a terrific and brave attempt to really , I mean REALLY ,give an insight into life on the moon for early pioneers. Pete Conrad ,the third man to set foot on the moon got involved in the show, and the designs of the show were ran past NASA for comment.
This thirty minute documentary about the show is available and is spoiler free but gives you a look at the feel of the show and the thoughts behind it.

Sorry I was thinking of Space Island One. That only has the first series on youtube.
One show I always loved was The Storyteller, 2 seasons of that.

It might be a nice idea to stretch our remit to one off dramas too, which would be nice warm ups to longer runs.... and a good little shakedown for this new team that seems to have assembled here.

I am thinking specifically of something like GHOSTWATCH, which caused such a stir in the day, back in 1992, and even was the factor in a young man's suicide, where he left a note saying "If there is ghosts I will now be one and I will always be with you as one".

https://www.imdforums.com/threads/ghostwatch-1992.616/

It is on Vimeo in three parts...

We could maybe do it one part at a time?

Any other one off dramas that would be worth a quick "run around the block"?

THE STRANGE WORLD OF GURNEY SLADE is another one curio that might be worth a watch....
The Strange World of Gurney Slade is a six-part British television series made by ATV and first transmitted by the ITV network between 22 October and 26 November 1960.
A surreal series devised by Anthony Newley, who also starred, it was written by Dick Hills and Sid Green.[1] Unusually for a comedy show on British television, the series was shot entirely on 35mm film; the first three episodes (bar the opening scene of the series) were shot on location, while the rest of the series was studio-bound.
The series follows the character of Gurney Slade, played by Newley, through a series of mundane environments with fantastical elements. Slade is the only continuing character, and is often heard in voice-over expressing his thoughts. Though we learn much about the character's inner life, we learn very little of Gurney Slade's history or background. He appears to be a character in a typical family-oriented TV show who abruptly tires of the artificial environment he's apparently trapped in; the first episode opens with Slade breaking the fourth wall of a television sitcom and leaving the set, to the protestations of its director.
Slade spends the rest of the series simply wandering from one (generally sparse) environment to another, ruminating on life in an often free-associative way. During his wanderings, he sometimes encounters a range of odd people (and at least one talking dog), all of which may be entirely creations of his own imagination

Six half hour episodes....

All on you tube....

Another short run possibility...

The BBC's 1977 adaption of COUNT DRACULA, starring Louis Jordan as the Count, regarded as one of the most faithful adaptions to the book.

On youtube in two parts...

The two failed RED DWARF USA pilots might be worth a quick watch too.....

Despite looking like they were filmed on a potato!

I also want to thank Mad-Pac for starting this thread. It is great that there has been such a positive response to it. :emoji_alien:

Hi everyone. Yes, I'm still here and willing to carry on with the Sages. I've read some interesting ideas in this thread. If Mad-pac still wants to make his "Where do we go next?" post we can make formal suggestions and start voting.
I'm for keeping the format to one or two season shows less than 30 episodes. I wouldn't be averse to doing a longer show on a separate basis when I have more time (still in our busy season at work for now.)

Hi Brimfin,

We sure are glad to be part of The Sages and are looking forward to whatever is chosen. I like the idea of this thread becoming the official depository for future suggestions. An info-bank, if you will.

And it's always interesting to read other people's takes on different shows. :emoji_alien:
