This time of year is collectively known as the "Holiday Season". Starting here in America with Thanksgiving (for me, it starts with Halloween), and goes through till January, mostly capitalizing on Christmas (Christian, non-denominational, and secular), but also encompassing Hanukkah,Kwanzaa, Ramadan, New Year's Eve, and other seasonal celebrations. It's meant to be a time to be less of an asshole than you are the rest of the year, but as someone who works retail, I can tell you that isn't the case. But I digress...

What, if any, holiday do you celebrate?

What are your favorite traditions of the season?

Does the phrase "Happy Holidays" really bother you, or are you evolved?

Isn't Alastair Sim the best Ebeneezer Scrooge ever? Feel free to say no, but know that robot ninjas will be sent to your house while you sleep tonight. You won't see them, because, you know, ninjas.

No. A Christmas Carol (1984) starring George C Scott is by far the best.

No but when I am in a store and one of the employees says Happy Holidays I just respond by saying and Merry Christmas to you.

I love Scott's performance in the role, and many others, but Sim just hits all the notes for me. But I'd give Scott second or third place.

It's funny, because I live in a small community which is predominately Christian, so we all say Merry Christmas where I work. I do have a couple I am friends with - he's Jewish, she's Catholic - and so they raise their kids in both faiths. I get funny looks when I wish him a Happy Hanukkah or give him a "Heavanu Sholam Alechem" (forgive the spelling) from others. Around here, Merry Christmas is obviously the go to. And while I know it's disproportionate (more of the loudest voices getting the attention), it kills me when I go on social media and people get rabid about the alleged "War on Christmas" and how Happy Holidays is an attack on their faith. Some folks just need a colonic and sent on a five mile hike.

Also, nice choice with The Holiday. Great movie that doesn't get enough play this time of year.

Don't get me wrong. I thought the Alastair Sims A Christmas Carol was great. Just thought Scott played an outstanding part. If you have not seen A Season for Miracles starring Carla Gugino you should check it out. Great family Christmas movie. I think the Hallmark channel will be showing it a few times between now and Christmas.

Here's a British ad i found - about the Nativity scene... did they have to to put all those pearl necklaces on that young girl?

Maybe they were trying to make the costume look homemade? (tongue in cheek) I think most angels might take exception to the idea that they wear pearls. (tongue in cheek)

This one came out in 2016, and I was upset it didn't get replayed this last Christmas. It hits all the right notes with me, my love of both Christmas and horror.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! A day set aside every year for everyone to give thanks for everything they have, only to then rush out and go shopping on the official start of the holiday shopping season. It has also been associated with the "first Thanksgiving", where a bunch of immigrants invaded another country because of a "war on their religious beliefs", nearly died but were saved by the indigenous peoples, then shared a meal with those people before setting forth on genocide. Also, while it's technically the beginning of the holiday season, we have been bombarded with Christmas music, decorations and TV movies for three months now.

But hey, pumpkin pie. Amirite?
