A spate of mysterious disappearances in Perivale have been recently taking place. Meaning that the Doctor's decision to take Ace to her home village couldn't come at a better time.

I am still not sure whether the series was ended prematurely, or whether it was, indeed time to have a rest.

But McCoy's final season had some good moments, although the curse of fan writer's was starting to infect the show. I always felt that Classic Who was best created by jobbing whatever's rather than people who were too invested in the show as fans.

A fan creating the show might always be tempted to muck about with the d.n.a. of the programme, putting new perspectives on established lore, because it will show what a clever fan they are and it can also be a way of riling up other fans who have jealously sniped at them in their exalted position as a creative. But that's a crazy way of creating stuff.

I am thinking particularly of Moffat putting Clara's face in the opening credits as a snipe at fans who had moaned that she was taking the Doctor's role. That is the sign of someone who has totally lost their perspective as to what their job is supposed to be about.

I really think that the rot started here, in the McCoy era, as the fans started to write the show.

It was nice that JNT had the foresight to suggest the final speech. How much sadder an ending for the show if it did not have this final walkdown and a dignified exit of sorts.

Although from 2001, some fans see it as a nice wrap up and conclusion to the Classic run, although it does not allow for the 1996 movie as canon.....





  • The events portrayed in Death Comes to Time appear to be at odds with established Doctor Who continuity. The apparent death of the Doctor seems to conflict with his regeneration into the Eighth Doctor in the 1996 telemovie, however, it is theorized that this was a ruse, and the Doctor didn't use the full extent of his power; this might explain the sudden departure of Ace. The fate of Ace conflicts with other spin-offs such as the Virgin New Adventures and various comic strips, although these were already incompatible with one another. More significantly, it is implicitly disputed by Sarah Jane Smith's statement in The Sarah Jane Adventures television episode, "Death of the Doctor". The god-like powers demonstrated by the Time Lords here were rarely seen in the television series, though they are in keeping with developments to the Seventh Doctor's character towards the end of the series. The Doctor claims in the story to have never been a baby; this is implicitly disputed by the Tenth Doctor in "The Last of the Time Lords" and definitively contradicted by the Eleventh Doctor in "A Good Man Goes to War".

I'll take The Curse of Fatal Death over Dimensions in Time any day of the week. Rowan Atkinson would have made a great Doctor. And it also gave us the first female Doctor. :emoji_alien: And the Master's dalek bumps :emoji_astonished:
