This song received a bit of criticism when it came out. It did seem to be taking a pot-shot at Bruce Springsteen.
From the recent release this song lyrically seems to be about an old magician losing his prowess and his glitzy stage persona , but actually is a brilliant euphemism for dementia and dying with dignity.
