Warners Announces New “Looney Tunes” Shorts
Warner Bros. Animation has announced plans for a revival of the short-format “Looney Tunes” cartoons. The announcement came with the first short, a Daffy Duck and Porky Pig adventure titled “The Curse of the Monkey Bird,” which was screened as part of the Annecy Fest Look Ahead.
The Looney Tunes cartoons will be 1-6 minutes in length, with WBA aiming to produce 1,000 minutes in all. Fifty shorts of varying length are in production, and the series features veteran Looney Tunes voice cast members including Jeff Bergman and Bob Bergen.
Newcomer Eric Bauza takes on the key roles of Bugs, Daffy and Tweety. All episodes will be in classical 2D animation and executive producer Peter Browngardt says the plan is to go back to the tone of the original 40s cartoons – “super irreverent, super bananas, high energy…they pushed the surrealism, the high physicality of the animation.”
