Review Harvey (1950)

~ This is one of the last classic films I've seen recently. Harvey is a wonderful witty comedy JImmy Stewart playing Elwood P Dodd & his best pal is a 6 foot bunny named Harvey. Sadly no one sees him but Elwood. He is happy with his pal, always talks about him & chill with Harvey. Elwood's sister and niece are tired of it and are trying to get him committed in a asylum just to hide the shame that of people thinking Elwood is loony. A whole big mix up occurred at the facility with Elwood and his sister. So a doctor, asylum nurse & orderly try to get Elwood Dodd back to reality but he can't not let Harvey go. Mind that to others Elwood may seem nuts but he is such a charming, pleasant & very wise in his ways. I really enjoyed this film and would recommend others to watch it.

This is Jimmy Stewart at his most likeable. Josephine Hull stole every scene she was in as his batty sister His character is arguably the most well-balanced in the film (irony!).

Fantastic movie. I have also had the pleasure of seeing the original play it was based on performed live, and while good, it wasn't the same without Stewart.

Netflix Remakes Jimmy Stewart’s “Harvey”





Scribes J. David Stem (“Shrek 2”) and David N. Weiss (“The Smurfs”) are teaming with Netflix to adapt a remake of the 1950 Jimmy Stewart dramedy “Harvey” which itself was based on Mary Chase’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play.

The story follows a man named Elwood P. Dowd who has a maybe-not-so-imaginary six-foot rabbit named Harvey. The story has been adapted to the small screen five times, but only once to film.

Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg were in talks at one point with Fox/DreamWorks, but that version never eventuated. Fabrica de Cine (“The Irishman”) is attached to produce.
