“Godzilla vs. Kong” May Not Be The End
2014’s “Godzilla” reboot kicked off what has since become a shared MonsterVerse series including the raved about “Kong: Skull Island” and two more upcoming titles – “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” this summer and “Godzilla vs. Kong” in 2020.
When plans for this linked universe of films were announced, they only included these four with no mention of any possibilities beyond this point. In the years since there have been no announced plans beyond “Godzilla vs. Kong” which is currently shooting here in Australia.
This week, whilst talking to
Toho Kingdom, producer Alex Garcia suggests there could be films past this point depending upon the success of the upcoming films:
“We take it one movie at a time. We’re working with Adam Wingard, working toward Godzilla vs. Kong, but the right now the focus is all on [Godzilla 2] . . . It’s one brick at a time. There’s obviously a goal of what we want the whole thing to look like, but each piece has to be as good as it can be. Could there be? Yeah, that’s the hope if the movies turn out really well.”
“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” opens May 31st this year with “Godzilla vs. Kong” targeting a March 13th 2020 opening.
