Michael Rooker (“Guardians of the Galaxy”), Charlotte McKinney (“Flatliners”), Parisa Fitz-Henley (“Luke Cage”) and Austin Stowell (“Catch 22”) have joined the upcoming film adaptation of the classic ABC TV series “Fantasy Island” at Sony Pictures and Blumhouse.

The Aaron Spelling series ran from 1977-84 and follows visitors who come to the titular island to live out their fantasy wishes, an island run by Mr Roarke (Ricardo Montalban) and his assistant Tattoo (Herve Villechaize). The series often included not just dark themes but supernatural elements, making it a good fit for Blumhouse.

The new take centers on a group of contest winners who arrive at an island hotel to live out their greatest fantasies, only to find themselves trapped in nightmare scenarios. The new film is said to have a tone described as “Westworld” meets “Cabin in the Woods”.

Michael Pena is set to star as the island’s host Mister Roarke. Dave Bautista will play a former guest who is still on the island against his will and wants to expose Roarke. Lucy Hale and Jimmy O. Yang also star.

Jeff Wadlow helms from a script he co-wrote with Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs. The film opens February 28th next year.
