I'm reading about how these fires killed 500 million animals since September:

I feel so bad for them! :emoji_disappointed: And apparently the Prime Minister is an utter asshole? In another forum I frequent they've taken to calling him "Happy Clappy Jesus Chappy". Sounds as incompetent as Trump. What say you AntMac? How are you holding up?

I'm doing okay. I'm well away from the bush fires this year. We had our close call a couple of years back... I had ash from the nearby bush fires falling in my backyard that year.

The east coast fires near Sydney are around 1 400 kilometres to 1 500 kilometres away, the bush fires in my home state of Victoria are a similar distance away, while the bush fires in the hills of my state capital are around 250 kilometres away.

And ScoMo - the current PM - hasn't really made much of an impression on me. However, as he's a Liberal, I'd be hard pressed to find anything nice to say about him. I vote mostly for Labor, not that they're much better.

In the U.S. "socialist" is a dirty word, but I still read this website regularly. I'm not informed enough to call myself a Marxist but I know what we have now sure as hell isn't working -- anyway:

In Australia, the main right-wing party is the Liberal Party of Australia. They often form a coalition government with the National Party of Australia.

The main left-wing party is the Australian Labor Party. I generally vote for them or the Australian Greens. Sometimes they work together, but not as often as I'd like.

As for the outrage... I've seen it before, but it doesn't seem to last. Life's full of other problems people have to worry about. Hopefully it'll resurface at the next federal election.

And for the record, it's now 0300 hours here, pitch dark and there's a fairly thick smoke haze everywhere. It covers the entire town and the surrounding countryside. I went for a drive, but I couldn't find a source to it. I even drove down to the next little "town" and I still couldn't find anything.

So I came home and rang up the police and they said it was most likely from the Kangaroo Island bush fires and the bush fires in the hills around the state capital. The wind just happens to be blowing the right way.

As I said earlier, the bush fires in the hills around the state capital are about 250 kilometres away and the ones on Kangaroo Island are probably about 300 kilometres away.

My brother and cousin live in California, and even though the fires there were a ways away from both of them, the smoke was ALL over. They could see and smell it. I can only imagine how horrible that must be.

There's a one-letter difference between Mormon and Moron.

A girl I went to school with - and who lived in the same little town as I - once answered the door to them.

Not realizing her error, she called out to her mother: "Mum! The morons are at the door!"

I've never really had the patience or time to spare any religious group.

Australia’s Black Summer bushfires destroyed thousands of homes, and for many people, the scale of the devastation has meant that the clean-up process has been painfully slow. In the early hours of New Year’s Eve, 14 homes in the tiny village of Quaama burnt down, and the ferocity of the fire left almost nothing salvageable in the ruins. As the first step of the clean-up begins, Ruth Haggar and Veronica Coen take one last sift through the rubble and ash and reflect on what was lost and the long path ahead to recovery.
