Filming Begins On Disney’s “Artemis Fowl”
Walt Disney Pictures has begun production on “Artemis Fowl,” the Kenneth Branagh-directed film adaptation of the first book of Eoin Colfer’s best-selling series of the same name.
Award-winning playwright Conor McPherson has adapted the property for the screen. In the story, twelve-year-old genius Artemis Fowl is descended from a long line of criminal masterminds. He soon finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father’s disappearance.
Newcomer Ferdia Shaw plays the title character, with Lara McDonnell (“Love, Rosie”) playing Captain Holly Short, a feisty, spirited elf who is kidnapped by Artemis for a ransom of fairy gold.
Dame Judi Dench plays Commander Root, the leader of the reconnaissance division of the fairy police force LEPrecon, and Josh Gad plays the kleptomaniac dwarf Mulch Diggums. Nonso Anozie plays the Fowl family bodyguard Butler, Tamara Smart is niece Juliet, and Miranda Raison plays Artemis’ mother Angeline.
Also onboard are Josh McGuire, Hong Chau, Nikesh Patel, Michael Abubakar, Jake Davies, Rachel Denning, Matt Jessup, Simone Kirby, Sally Messham and Adrian Scarborough. Many of the key crew on Branagh’s “Murder on the Orient Express” return for the new film with shooting taking place in England, Northern Ireland and Ho Chi Minh City.
