    Fun Worlds of DC

As much as it pains me to say this, yes they are. I prefer the DC superheroes to Marvel, Shazam (or Captain Marvel) being my favourite. However, Marvel are wiping the floor with DC at present. There has been some nice social commentary in the Marvel movies (e.g. the trading liberty for security...

Review Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014)

Still love the original. After god knows how many viewing, I still get a kick out of the pay off; Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it. You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell! The sequels were fun, Escape being my...

    Review Superman the Movie (1978)

Well, not sure about that. Superman II was pretty awesome as well. Particularly the Richard Donner version. Christopher Reeves is my personal favourite Superman.

Fun The Last Movie That You Watched?

Cinema: John Wick 2 (Tuesday night). Very good example of the switch off, relax and enjoy the ridiculous mayhem type. At home: Alien (last night). First 18 rated (or X certificate as it was back then) movie that I saw in the cinema. Still impresses today. Great script, Wonderful production and...

    Review Bill Paxton

Bill Paxton died today due to complications following heart surgery. So many great performances, particularly the more manic characters; such as Chet Donnelly (Weird Science), Private Hudson (Aliens) and Simon (True Lies). RIP Bill, and thanks for the good times.

    Review Awful Remakes?

The Thing From Another World (1951) only used the basic premise from John W Campbell's Novella. John Carpenter's 1982 remake The Thing was far more faithful. An excellent script by Bill Lancaster and truly astonishing, ground breaking SFX from Rob Bottin. Unfortunately, due to the gruesome...

    Review Awful Remakes?

The Fly was indeed a superior remake. Insect politics. I'm an insect who dreamt he was a man and loved it. But now the dream is over... and the insect is awake. Excellent.

    Review Awful Remakes?

I don't like it more than the original, but I still find this a very good movie. Heaven Can Wait (1978), remake of Here Comes Mr Jordan (1941). The original is my favourite movie. Technically, they are versions of the Harry Segall play Heaven Can Wait.

    Fun Your Favourite Films?

Jaws: The Revenge Absolute travesty. Poor plot, the shark from Jaws 2 back for revenge. The producers did themselves no favours by trying to recreate the scene where Brody's younger son mimics his actions at the dinner table. I usually buy franchise box sets. Can't bring myself to do it with...

    Controversial Trump

All that means is that there will be an even greater clusterfuck for the next administration to fix.
