I don't think that's the chameleon circuit, but the outer plasma shell readjusting to changing operational parameters, available energy supplies and so forth.Yes!!!!!

Or successive production teams didn't care about continuity...

I love the consistency of Chibnall's work in that he is an idiot in everything he does.

We were both thinking on similar lines, so there is definitely something amiss with it.
This is definitely taking the "organic" look - which I never liked (give me the white console rooms and corridors anyday) and taking it to the next step: A dead creature decomposing.
