Adult Swim and Crunchyroll are teaming with Alcon Television Group to produce and distribute a new anime series inspired by the “Blade Runner” films.
“Blade Runner: Black Lotus” will take place in 2032 and will include characters previously seen in the Blade Runner universe. Shinichiro Watanabe (“Cowboy Bebop,” “Samurai Champloo”), who previously wrote and directed the anime short “Blade Runner Black Out 2022” which served as a prequel to “Blade Runner 2049,” is serving as creative producer on the series.
Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama will direct all of the thirteen half-hour episodes with Sola Digtal Arts (“Ultraman”) handling animation. Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Laura Lancaster, Al-Francis Cuenca, and Joseph Chou will executive produce.
Adult Swim will maintain worldwide distribution rights for the English dubbed version of the series, excluding Asia. The English dubbed episodes will air on Adult Swim’s anime programming block Toonami. Crunchyroll will handle worldwide streaming.
