Similar false memories are sometimes shared by multiple people.

One such false memory is that the name of the Berenstain Bearswas once spelled Berenstein.

Another example is false memories of a 1990s movie titled Shazaam starring the comedian Sinbad as a genie; such false memories may be the product of a confluence of factors, such as a performer wearing a genie costume during a TV presentation of Sinbad the Sailor movies in 1994, and a similarly named 1996 film Kazaam featuring a genie played by Shaquille O'Neal.

A 2010 study examined people who were familiar with the clock at Bologna Centrale railway station, which had been damaged in the Bologna massacre in August 1980. In the study, 92% falsely remembered that the clock had remained stopped since the bombing; in fact, the clock was repaired shortly after the attack but was again stopped 16 years later as a symbolic commemoration.

In 2010 this phenomenon was dubbed the "Mandela Effect" in reference to false memories of the death of South African leader Nelson Mandela in the 1980s (when in fact, he died in December 2013).

Most commentators say that these false memories are shaped by similar factors affecting multiple people,such as social reinforcement of incorrect memories, or false news reports and misleading photographs influencing the formation of memories based on them.

PICARD'S CRYSTAL....

i've seen every episode of Star Trek and this is the first time I've noticed that crystal.

Same here, seen them all loads of times too!

I was watching TNG just today and noticed this crystal for the first time after all these years of rewatching the show

Yep ... TNG is my favorite show and most watch ... never seen this crystal before. WTF ... Gota be a mandela effect.

Same I'm freaking out now this must be a recent change used to watch TNG all the time on netflix never seen the crystal don't remember it.

I've been rewatching TNG, I'm in the second season and I saw the crystal on Picard's desk.

I swear to God they are fucking with us, he never had that prop in the show. If this isn't pure proof of the Mandela effect I don't know what is

Just asked 3 different friends who are huge fans of Star Trek, they don't remember this either. One of them actually freaked out a lot (this guy is on the autistic spectrum and this change actually messed with him a lot, he literally ONLY watches Star Trek religiously).

I recently watched various videos on YouTube concerning the Mandela effect. Some people seem to point the finger of blame towards CERN and the scientific experiments that are being conducted there.

Personally, I must admit all of this more than a little eerier and disturbing - if indeed it's true...

And for the record, that's the first time I've ever been aware of there being a crystal on Picard's desk - and I watched STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION through from start to finish more than once.

Mandela Effect: Dolly's Braces in Moonraker

I decided to delve into a more unusual topic that I learned about recently. Apparantely thousands of fans seem to share the memory that Jaws's nerdy little girlfriend Dolly had braces. This phenomenon is called the "Mandela Effect".

Well I remember the braces completely. That's why they fell in love - the connection between them revolved around that fact - his metal teeth and her metal braces. There are other You Tubers who have done research on it and found references to her braces in several old articles. As nuts as it seems, there are many of us that remember it like that including my 75 year old Auntie who is an avid Bond film fan.

My cousins uncle was a dentist in London he did moulds of Richards teeth for the brace in the Spy Who Loved Me and his partner did plaster cast moulds for Moonraker 's Dolly. He told me that story back in the 80s. Sadly the guy died back in the 90s but I don't believe he would lie.

Yes, she did have braces.

What is creepy about the scene is just it makes no sense without the braces.

I never thought I would weigh in on the Mandela Illusion of Memory, but Dolly is wearing wire-rimmed eyeglasses which are about as bright and glittery as the alleged braces would have appeared if she was wearing them. Maybe that little metallic detail has morphed in peoples' memories into the scene-appropriate braces revealed in her smile

So, to get my feeble brain around this theory, a scientist found computer code in Superstring theory that suggests the possibility that our universe is a simulation by a higher intelligence that wishes to study how we interact.

Just as we are now creating simulations of ancient Egypt etc in games etc to get a good idea of "how they used to live" - and much like the Holodecks in Star Trek were achieving?

And the Mandela Effect is caused by changes in the computer programming? Like someone overwriting the storyline or changing the details in the ancient Egypt game, but the characters are remembering the previous version of the game?

Is that an adequate and accurate summing up?

The simulation hypothesis proposes that all of reality, including the earth and the universe, is in fact an artificial simulation, most likely a computer simulation. Some versions rely on the development of a simulated reality, a proposed technology that would seem realistic enough to convince its inhabitants the simulation was real. This is a clip of the only episode in Lost In Space where the robot says the famous line and it does not happen how I remember it. I actually remember this happening multiple times with the Robots arms waving AROUND.

Well, it turns out that TIME AND THE RANI was scripted by Robert Holmes and directed by Graeme Harper, despite what everyone remembers - after Pip and Jane died in 1986, both brutally murdered by Eric Saward, midway through their writing that Vervoid nonsense.

So it's a classic now.

On a serious note though, I find Dicks' earnest and sober contention that we are living in a computer generated Hollogramatic universe a fascinating one.

I won't dwell on it too much - to the point of insanity - but I know I also won't be able to shake it off until it can be completely and logically disproven now!
