Should they redo this with c.g.i., using the original soundtrack?
Or are you happy with the standard of animation as it is?

I don't care if it's not canon, I loved the animated series. Sure, it's cheesy, but it's fun.

Forget the alternative timeline, with modern CGI and other special effects, take the soundtracks from these episodes, along with fresh work from original and new voice talent and new live action actors and reconstructed sets and incorporate these stories into the original TV series and give us the full 5 year mission.

I've always felt that there was a lot of potential for these episodes to be adapted for a live action series. Or even expanded upon for a movie. After the rebooted movies started I wanted to see a movie based on Beyond the Farthest Star. It would need some significant adaptation but imagine a movie with the atmosphere of exploring an abandoned, ancient spaceship, with the fear of "something" being there with them, working to terrify them and eventually to escape with the crew. You could have the Enterprise trapped in orbit with major damage and needing to obtain parts from the other ship and the constant danger from being hunted by something completely alien.

I think my favorite episode is still "Yesteryear". Seeing Spock go back and save himself as a child is a wonderful bit of writing. It also gave us our first glimpse of the bullying Spock endured in his youth.
I also find it so funny that as much as Vulcans tout their embrace of logic, they are, underneath it all, a race of snobs and just as judgmental as any human. We see it here and in the reboot, where the kids torment Spock for his half-human lineage, as well as the adults looking upon him as less than they are. Logical my ass.

If they did new stories, then I would go the CGI route. But the animation of the original program fits. Not everything should be made shiny and new just because we can do so.

Indeed. I don't remember which cast member had said it, but they disliked the fact that they assumed that, being it was animated, they could be more imaginative with the alien designs, and yet, they seemed to stick with very conventional aliens. This works because it fits in with the previous series, but it is disappointing, because they could have pulled out all the stops since they weren't confined by budget.
As I've said before, he had a brilliant idea, but needed others to help him realize his vision. Better writers made TOS what it was. Even writers on TNG remarked about how they could be more creative after Gene's passing, because he would reject a lot of great ideas.Paramount revoked Rodenberry's insistence that it was "not canon".

True, but he also brought about the story for Assignment: Earth, which is one of my favorites. The episode itself isn't perfect, but it had a pretty good basis (I don't know if the episode's weaknesses are his or Art Wallace's). I would have loved to have seen that spin-off come about. Apparently, there was a book and a comic that furthered the adventures of Gary Seven and Roberta, which I need to read at some point.
Maybe the new Trek movie continuity could rip that one off...I mean, reimagine it?

I'm rewatching these again for the first time in six or seven years! They still stand up story wise and animation wise! A great way for kids to enjoy the adventures of Kirk and crew (well not my kids anyway)
