For somewhere in the neighborhood of 30+ years now, Dick Wolf has pretty much owned "The Cop Show" as the public sees it, along with the concept as a whole. One of the ways he made it such a success was by including the city (and for 20 years that city was New York) as a character in the "Ripped from the Headlines" storylines of his work.
His flagship was Law & Order which started (back in the "olden days") to average reviews and focused on the stories themselves rather than the ever-changing characters of his ensemble casts. The faces of those casts came from Broadway, Hollywood, TV and movies and any number of them were either brand new and had never been seen on screen much at all, to the well-known and much beloved faces of Broadway productions who were rarely seen on TVs.
He garnered Emmy after Emmy for his shows, as did many of the people he had starring in them and because of the ultimate success of the original Law & Order, he was able to add any number of spin-offs to support that much loved flagship. From L & O came L & O Special Victims Unit (the only one set in New York that is still running today) and L & O Major Case which was a personal favorite of mine due to the indefatigable work of Vincent D'onofrio (sorry bout the spelling there VD!). The faces of his actors may have come and gone from the shows he started them in, but once seen on one of his shows was to be forever recognizable to the viewing public at large. His shows, the stories he told and the great city of New York became indelibly imprinted on the minds of the viewing public and a few of his people even returned to take up their old roles in other shows of his after years of absence and appearances or starring roles in other shows on other networks.
But Dick has pretty much packed up and moved out of New York and the city he's chosen to restart his successes in is one of my personal favorites, The Windy City of Chicago. His first show, moving out of the world of law and justice was Chicago Fire and from there came Chicago PD, Chicago Med, just two years ago and this season they were joined by Chicago Justice a show that moves him back into what I believe is his favorite location, the courtroom. A show headed by a character playing the son of his first ADA on L & O, Michael Moriarty who played ADA Stone.
I started watching Chicago Justice just recently, streaming quickly through it's first season and finding it every bit as compelling as it's "parent show" the original Law & Order, but set primarily in the courtroom as the police work that led into his courtrooms up until now, is currently covered by Chicago PD. The writing is just as good as it ever was, just as relevant and still incredibly compelling drama. Although all three other shows have been picked up for another season, we are still awaiting word on the continuation of Chicago Justice. A show I'm quite hopeful for and about.
Having blazed through CJ, I decided to move onto C. Med as I was curious about his take on the inner workings of the hospital. In this case, a state of the art institution focusing primarily on emergency & trauma. It just finished it's second season and I found it too, riveting. To head the hospital, he has picked up and transplanted S. Epatha Merchesen (sp. again.... sorry!) who played the head of the L & O police station for the entire run of the show. She was, interestingly enough, the only actor to have had that honor and you can see why in her performance as the head of the hospital. Also along for the ride is Oliver Platt who plays CM's permanent on-staff psychiatrist. A role he is perfectly suited for and one he plays with obvious relish. As it is a teaching hospital, there are a variety of interns, Docs on staff and of course, the nurses without whom medical facilities simply would not, could not run (but my Mom is a retired RN so I'm probably prejudiced).
Dick, to my eye, hasn't lost any of his mojo and although I haven't started CF and/or CPD, they are both up on my binge-list as, having found this old friend has set up shop in a new city, I am thrilled to be back on my sofa, once again sucked into the things he has to tell us about this "brave new world" we are currently living in. And indeed, the stories I've seen on CJ are still true to the "ripped from the headlines" format he so deservedly made his name on.
So thanks Dick. It's good to meet up with an old friend, telling new stories in a city I love. Take a look for yourselves.... for me "it's so far, so good"!

I just watched the first 3 episodes of The Mist, its not very good.
Im finally finishing season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead.
I need to watch last weeks episode tonight before the next one. That's one thing I made a joke about last Sunday, was I was missing zombie night.

I was camping, for 5 days out of state. I didn't have access to walking dead shows. I don't normally live my life show to show, but I look forward to walking dead night is all.I've just never understood the whole "missing a zombie" thing........

It's a close look at both societal behaviors and the collapse of civilization in the threat of the rise of the living dead. It also is a way for viewers to face death in a fantastical setting, to better deal with the concept.
Also, they eat people. And it's really cool and bloody.
As for watching, I've been trying to get the time to watch the new Castlevania anime on Netflix. It's only four episodes, but finding extra time is not always easy.

I tried to watch that TV series, but by the time they got to David Morrissey's place, I was simply too bored to care.
I love a good post-apocalyptic TV show, just so long as it doesn't involve bloody zombies.
