4. Roger Moore

6. Daniel Craig

I hate to list Daniel Craig last since he's one of my favorite actors, but I never could buy him as James Bond. He seems more like Willie Garvin from Modesty Blaise or something.

I feel similarly about Roger Moore.

I thought he was brilliant in THE SAINT, THE PERSUADERS and NORTH SEA HIJACK, but after reading all of the original Ian Fleming 007 novels, I do not find him convincing as 007 on screen. The same also goes for George Lazenby and Daniel Craig.

There is. It's included in the reply button at the side of the thread.

There is also one in the tool section at the top.

QUANTUM OF SOLACE certainly doesn't seem to be very popular on any list I've seen.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

If the film told exactly the same story, with the same amount of edits, but was about 10 minutes longer, it would be easier to follow and easier to enjoy. However, that's just my opinion.

Could it have worked?

After a screen test for The Living Daylights, he was a popular choice with the production team, but Cubby Broccolli vetoed him as a choice and - when Pierce Brosnan proved unavailable - Timothy Dalton ended up with the role instead.

Did we miss a great Bond thanks to Cubby?

In my own personal opinion, Sam Neill is the greatest 007 who never was. I think Timothy Dalton is the best 007 we have had to date, but Sam Neill would have still been a superior choice. However, we can still view his work in the role of Sidney Reilly - the inspiration for James Bond - as compensation for the lack of his presence in that iconic film role.

Neill, Sam Neill.

Yes, not the Daniel Craig one, not even that Barry Nelson, black and white tv one, but that OTHER one...

Once hated and derided, it is now gaining some kudos as a slice of sixties kitsch.

But should it have stayed hated?

Air your views on this very unusual Bond movie here...

Strangely, I have never actually been able to get from one end of this movie to the other.

I start watching it and it keeps my attention for a bit as it is intriguingly odd. Then my mind starts to wander and before I know it I am reading a book or something, then realise that I would really rather be watching Alien 3 for the billionth time. Or Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

I think that this is because it is such a disjointed film that I get pulled out of the movie every time it jumps to some new location and situation with a brand new character.

Probably best watched stoned. Then it will be a masterpiece. One of those kinds of films...

Yes you nailed it. Best watched stoned. Magically it at least climbs to "AIRPLANE 2" heights after 40 cough gels. Peter Sellers walking out during production actually may have made it better. Funny how he was edited into the last scenes. I have a VHS of The "CANNES FILM FESTIVAL" from 1980. No interview about Bond in his interview but probably one of the last he gave.

I watched this one once as a kid with my folks. My mom went on about how this film was genius-level bad cinema. I had some laughs, but it's not one I could recommend to anyone with any degree of sincerity. I would, however, watch a continuous 48-hour loop of it rather than watch any of the TWILIGHT movies, so it has that going for it.
