I do love me some fried okra. Never had the chance to try balut, It sounds like a big pile of nasty, but I'm certain I could be coerced into trying it. Nuoc Mam, though, sounds delicious, even though smell has much to do with me trying anything. However, I do enjoy Kimchi.

Spinach from a can.
In a curry-creating emergency, I've resorted to tinned rather than none at all. Since I grew up enough to have a freezer, frozen spinach nuggets are better when it just has to be a saag aloo.

(Sorry, petal, I've forgotten how to do quoting 2 comments in the same message) That's what we Yorkshire folk know as polony isn't it? Slightly squishy and very peppery smooth slicing sausage? Made of well-ground pig parts? Given to me in chunks, even in my pram, by a doting grandma who felt it gave the infant fist such a well-finished look. (And stopped me crying as I munched it, I suppose. At least it wasn't a gin-soaked crust.)

@Carol Great to see you! What's new?
Likewise, great to be back here! New hair (shorter, redder... sorry, that's a bit girlie). Easter officially opens my gardening season so I traded laptop for a wholesome selection of appropriate poisons and botanical weaponry and got on to the offensive. Easter Monday was a bit breezy and I got blowback from the rose spray so I am now also proof against mould, rust, black spot and aphid infestation for the next 4-6 weeks. Apparently. A few new flesh wounds on fingers - soil still too claggy for effective hoiking out of dandelions with a traditional implement so I re-purposed a very old bread knife and started stabbing. Highly effective, and frankly, blood, got lots of it!
Also a very cheery Buffy rewatch of series six and seven, brief but lovely catch up with cousins who emerged from West Wales for the occasion. Now back for college restarting, but the cyber - social life reboot here comes a few days earlier.

How's yourself?

Arrgh! I just googled it and got ILLUSTRATIONS! Not at all happy - my head tells me on first sight that it solves the chicken OR egg snack/ sandwich filling dilemma but my heart, mind, soul and stomach lining all disagree with added gak!

Was once with a Chinese pal in a Chinese supermarket. I spotted tins of "three snake" soup and said "oh yes, a culinary joke like toad in the hole, right?" He said "Hmm." Nuff said.

Oh, CRAP! Dearest Mods I have double posted in error, but 2 hours apart - very sorry!

but Balut seems a bit too far out there for me.
Although as a snappy stage name for a future Eurovision winner, it might have my vote (look, one year I voted for Bulgaria on the strength of their dynamic use of wind-chimes - and, regrettably, I was stone cold sober at the time. I do hope we'll have a Eurovision thread in due course.

I was okay until it was discovered that mice had made a mess of everything on the wife's side of the closet, and now my laundry list has grown exponentially. I'm not overly happy.

Maybe view it as a chance to refurbish Mrs Metal's threads AND do the manly mouse-hunter exterminator thing - there is no down side to this (except strain on finances and stress from potential rodent aggression). OK so that's 2 down sides, but it's a toughie.
New closet from IKEA might do it?
