Enjoyed the book a lot and enjoyed the film too (which has almost nothing to do with the book though).

Apparently, there were tons of problems making this and everyone was unhappy with it then, to everyone's surprise... it was a massive hit. Now the sequel is experiencing similar production problems and is indefinitely delayed.

“World War Z 2” Delayed, “Silver Lake” Sets Date

Paramount Pictures has reportedly delayed (yet again) principal photography on the David Fincher-directed “World War Z” sequel following this week’s report of Brad Pitt confirming his reunion with Quentin Tarantino on that filmmaker’s next film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” at Sony Pictures.

The delay is said to be entirely due to Pitt, who stars in and produces WWZ2 and is key to the whole endeavour. Filming, which was to take place in the Summer, will now kick off in the Fall.

Meanwhile “It Follows” writer/director David Robert Mitchell finally returns with the thriller “Under the Silver Lake” which A24 has been sitting on for a little while. The distributor has now set a June 22nd limited theatrical release for the film which stars Andrew Garfield, Riley Keough and Topher Grace.

The story follows a man who becomes obsessed with the strange circumstances of a billionaire mogul’s murder and the kidnapping of a girl.

It looks like the David Fincher-directed sequel to “World War Z” won’t be making that date.

The Playlist reports that the film won’t be shooting this year at all, but is still in development and location scouting in Spain, Sweden, Texas having taken place. They add that “the script isn’t quite there” apparently with Steven Knight and Dennis Kelly penning the screenplay at last report.

Bayona Explains Departing “World War Z 2”


Before he signed on to direct “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” filmmaker J.A. Bayona was linked to another studio sequel tentpole film – the sequel to “World War Z” at Paramount Pictures.

Bayona, coming off acclaim for the likes of “The Orphanage” and “The Impossible,” was attached to “World War Z 2” briefly but ultimately left the Brad Pitt-led project to make ‘Fallen Kingdom’ instead – allowing for David Fincher to ultimately step in and take over the zombie tale.

Speaking with Den of Geek this week, Bayona revealed that though he thought “World War Z 2” had potential, he ultimately departed because the film’s start date was approaching and he simply wasn’t ready:

“We were working on that project for around a year, and we had a great idea. We were very excited. We designed great set pieces, and we were very excited with the direction we were taking with the film, but somehow, we never found a way to connect it all together.”

He then advised Paramount as much and stepped down, segueing to the “Jurassic World” sequel instead. Paramount still plans to make the film and Bayona says he’s keen to see it after hearing some of the plans the studio has for it.

“World War Z” Sequel Sets Start Date?


It has been languishing in development for years, but it appears as if the sequel to 2013’s global zombie action film “World War Z” is still happening.

David Fincher remains attached to direct the film and re-team with his “Se7en” star Brad Pitt on the project. At last report he’s taking his time to get the script right with the help of “Utopia” screenwriter Dennis Kelly.

Fincher’s commitments to the second season of Netflix’s “Mindhunter” and Pitt’s to Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” however stopped any chance of filming this year, but producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner told Variety this week that the project has set a June 2019 start of filming date and both Pitt and Fincher are still attached.

Kleiner added that they’re still working with Kelly on the sequel’s script to get it right. It’s not clear if the new film will go back to use elements from the original Max Brooks novel which the original film barely touched upon.
