Haven't seen it but gotta say; the book wasn't stellar.

Page after page of slow, meandering stuff then bang -- the guy just suddenly goes insane.

Will be curious to see what they do with a remake (especially given Hollow Man covered the same ground).

It's a fantastic film, if only because of Claude Rains. He was another of the wonderful gentleman actors who really delivered any role, no matter how good or terrible the film was. It was certainly a film ahead of its time, effects wise. Some shots look pretty dated, but over all, it still holds up. Much of the dryness of the book has been trimmed for time, and it helps get to the meat of the story. Gloria Stuart is brilliant in it. I saw her in a horror film doc by Mark Gatiss that was filmed not too long before she passed away, and she said Rains had a problem with trying to take up the frame and keep her out of the shot, which she would constantly admonish him for.
