Your thoughts on this movie.....

A faded TV actor and his stunt double embark on an odyssey to make a name for themselves in the film industry during the Helter Skelter reign of terror in 1969 Los Angeles.

“Arrow” actress Katie Cassidy, who also starred in A Nightmare On Elm Street, is playing a part inspired by actress Sharon Tate in The Wolves at the Door, a micro-budget horror movie made by New Line.

Annabelle‘s John Leonetti directs the project that takes it's cues from the horrifying Manson Family murders that shocked Los Angeles in 1969.

Known as the Tate murders, the event saw members of the Charles Manson cult break into the home of Tate, eight-and-a-half months pregnant, and her new husband director Roman Polanski. The director was shooting in Europe at the time, but Tate was entertaining three friends. They were all stabbed and shot to death multiple times.

The filmmakers say the project is a home invasion thriller set in the 1960s, but is not a retelling of the actual events, nor will it reference any Manson connection.

Released in the UK March 17th, 2017

So, it's a horror movie about the Manson Murders, that has nothing to do with the Manson Murders, just "taking it's cues" from them.

And Katie Cassidy is playing a part that has only been "inspired" by Sharon Tate. She is not actually playing Sharon Tate...

Okay.....

As I started reading the info about this and it's still happening, I have chills running thru my whole body. I'm old enough to have been around when the actual deed happened. And, I still remember the gruesome
re-accounts of it in the papers. I do think this is an exploitation of a real, horror event. On the other hand,
the book Helter Skelter was a best seller and it too exploited the horror. I did read the book, but somehow
to me reading doesn't hold the same effect that seeing does.
~ as a side note: the TV program 20/20, tomorrow 3-17 is airing a 2hr. program about Mansion, 9-11 pm ~

Tarantino’s Manson Script Under Tight Lockdown

tarantinos-manson-script-under-tight-lockdown-696x464.jpg

Quentin Tarantino is reportedly making studio executives go through a complicated process to bid for his new film about Charles Manson.

The Wrap reports that William Morris Endeavor are shopping around his upcoming ninth feature film which will deal with the Manson murders – the tragedy and cultural phenomenon of his cult and the famous victims of their violence.

The likes of Warner Bros. Pictures, Universal Pictures and Paramount Pictures are all interested, but in order to bid the studio execs have to go to WME’s Beverly Hills offices to see the script in person. The agents then present deal points to allow the studios to bid for the theatrical rights. No streaming giants are said to be under consideration, only full theatrical distributors.

A second round of discussions will be set where the studios can pitch Tarantino directly as well. Secrecy is high on this likely due to the early script for his previous film “The Hateful Eight” leaking online which upset the director to the point he almost abandoned the project.

It just seems to me that, once again, Manson - who actually deserves to be a non-entity. yet who craves being important - is being reassured of his historical importance - or at least, the historical importance of the cult that he created - by Hollywood. Once again. He will go to his grave, smug in the knowledge that he is worthy of a movie, while a charity or hospital worker who may have spent decades saving lives, is not.

DiCaprio Sought For Tarantino’s Manson Film?

dicaprio-sought-for-tarantinos-manson-film-696x464.jpg

Leonardo DiCaprio’s name has reportedly been added to the potential casting mix for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming ninth film which will deal with the Manson Family cult murders.

Previously names like Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lawrence, Margot Robbie and Samuel L. Jackson were said to be in the mix, and now DiCaprio has reportedly had ‘conversations’ with Tarantino about a role in the film. DiCaprio previously worked with Tarantino on his seventh film “Django Unchained”.

Various studios are vying for the film which Tarantino is adamant about going theatrical with. The plan is to shoot in 2018 and hit cinemas in 2019.

Tarantino’s Next Is More 1969 Than Manson

tarantinos-next-is-more-1969-than-manson-696x464.jpg

As filmmaker Quentin Tarantino readies his next project, he has revealed that the film isn’t going to center around the Manson family murders as previously reported.

In the wake of the collapse of the Weinstein Company due to multiple allegations of sexual misconduct leveled at Harvey Weinstein, it was revealed Tarantino has recently been seeking funding for the film with the likes of Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, and Leonardo DiCaprio up for roles.

However story and plot specifics remained top secret with agency reps having to visit Tarantino’s office to see the script which was completed almost half a year ago. Speaking with Indiewire this week, Tarantino says the main focus isn’t on cult leader Charles Manson but rather a specific year: “It’s not Charles Manson, it’s 1969.”

That’s all the filmmaker would reveal about the film which, if it does include Manson, would likely only incorporate him for a few scenes at most as he was a key figure in that year along with Nixon taking office, the moon landing and the Vietnam War.

Filming is likely targeting an early 2018 release.

I've always been a fan of Quentin Tarantino and I've always been fascinated by Charles Manson and his followers. So I'm really looking forward to this. I just hope QT doesn't forget what got him his current reputation.

I also think Leonardo DiCaprio might well be the perfect choice to play CM.

Cruise Sought, Heyman Joins Tarantino’s Next

cruise-confirmed-to-return-for-sixth-mission-696x464.jpg

Following some rumored names last week, Tom Cruise is now being linked as a potential star of Quentin Tarantino’s next film, his ninth overall and his first without the involvement of Miramax or The Weinstein Company.

Variety & Deadline report that Warner Bros. Pictures, Sony Pictures, and Paramount Pictures have emerged as the fiercest bidders for the work, Fox is also open to it but is said to be less aggressively pursuing it.

Cruise would play one of the two lead male roles should he be cast, though there’s no telling if any of the actors will be cast as scheduling is still in flux. Additionally, “Harry Potter” film franchise producer David Heyman has boarded the project as the main producer.

The new film is set to take place in the late 1960s, early 1970s and will tie in with the Manson murders, though not as directly as initial reports indicated. Tarantino reportedly wants a production budget near $100 million. He is also expecting the final cut on the expected to be R-rated film along with first-dollar gross, meaning he will get a cut studio’s revenue before taxes. That has led to many suitors stepping back from bidding

Filming aims to begin by mid-2018 ahead of a 2019 theatrical release.

Apparently, Charles Manson is currently in hospital, in a grave medical condition...

It couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

So, we're looking at another Summer of Sam? No thanks. That movie bored me to tears.

I have an unnatural fascination with serial killers, and love to read about them, watch movies and documentaries about them, etc. With Manson, I don't have that interest, honestly. He's less creative killer and more whiny pre-emo kid who was just lucky enough to find people unintelligent enough to follow him and buy into his crap. If only The Beach Boys would have worked with him, he might just be doing his revival shows at casinos instead of rotting in prison.

I can think of a few others....

I too have this fascination. I like to read book about them but I enjoy the books by John Douglas the most. Or the books on the body farm.
As for Manson, I think that whole case is very interesting. The cult aspect, how these people followed him so blindly and did the things they did for him.

If only The Beach Boys would have worked with him, he might just be doing his revival shows at casinos instead of rotting in prison.
Well, they did steal a song from him. And he was always in and out of prison.

In this 1976 portrayal, amazingly Walter Koenig of Star Trek fame detailed in his autobiography that he came very close to getting the role of Manson and was gutted when he lost it to Steve Railsbeck, but conceded that Railsbeck was excellent.....

And there are other depictions, of course.

Clearly it seems that Tarantino will be depicting how the bubble of the sixties burst with the murders, because, as can be seen above, the actual Manson/Manson cult story has already been done to death.

But can he get an interesting film out of how the hippie movement imploded? And have there already been any films depicting this turning point?
