It was a somewhat better than average zombie teen undead rom-com of the time! (And there weren't a lot of those about so competition was lacking!) It was written by Fred Dekker, who went on to write the Monster Squad for Universal and the script and dialogue was unusually witty and clever for that kind of movie. So it stood out in a sea of not very good movies as a result and is a little under-rated to this day I feel.
Mind you, I haven't seen it for a good few years, so the memory may be cheating. I suspect it's not though and that it is still probably a better than average example of the genre.
