Two self-absorbed individuals who put their careers ahead of their relationship. Edit out the amateurish singing and dancing and call it a tragedy. It might just then be a film worth watching.
If you want to see great dancing and hear good songs, watch Swing Time with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. La La Land is not in the same class. It's not even in the same universe.
And all movie musicals (excluding opera) should have happy endings. I walked out of La La Land feeling depressed.
