Jude Law To Play The Young Dumbledore

Two-time Oscar nominee Jude Law is set to play the younger version of Albus Dumbledore in the second “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” film at Warner Bros. Pictures. 44-year-old Law will portray Dumbledore before the white-bearded wizard became the Headmaster at Hogwarts.

At this point in time, Dumbledore is still serving as the wizarding school’s Transfiguration professor. He is also a contemporary of Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp), a charismatic dark wizard who believes wizards are superior to Muggles and No-Majs.

Rowling is penning the sequel which will find an even darker world where Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.

The second of planned series of up to five films, Law’s role will likely stretch well beyond this immediate sequel. Richard Harris and Michael Gambon previously portrayed the character in the original film series.

The “Fantastic Beasts” opens on November 16th 2018.

Dumbledore's first appearance can be found here......

Way back in October, J.K. Rowling confirmed that we would be going all the way up to Fantastic Beasts 5.

On 14 October 2016, J. K. Rowling announced at a special fan screening of the first film in London that there will actually be five films in the series.

Rowling stated she always knew there was going to be more than one film and that they "said a trilogy as a kind of placeholder".

However, when she plotted out the story she had created, she realised they would need five films to tell it in.

David Yates also stated that the second film will be very different from the first film

While sitting on a panel about the new series, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them', the author confirmed she was "pretty sure" there were going to be five, and later confirmed the number on Twitter.

Ms Rowling said: "We always knew it was going to be more than one movie. We knew that from the start, and a trilogy is a kind of placeholder.

"I've now done the plotting properly, so we're pretty sure it's going to be five movies."

She later told fans on Twitter there would definitely be five, saying: "Not 'at least' Five. Five movies."

Ms Rowling also confirmed she would be the screenwriter of the movie series, adding that she was currently "putting the finishing touches" on the second film.

“Fantastic Beasts 2” Seeks A Teen Dumbledore

fantastic-beasts-2-seeks-a-teen-dumbledore-696x464.jpg

Warner Bros. Pictures has used the Pottermore website to announce an open casting call being held for the sequel to “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”.

The filmmakers are seeking young actors to play the teenage versions of Newt Scamander, Leta Lestrange, Gellert Grindelwald, Albus Dumbledore and more.

Three actors between the ages of 13 and 16 are being sought to play young Newt, Leta and a character named Sebastian. Two actors between 16 and 18 are able to audition for Gellert Grindewald and Albus Dumbledore.

No previous acting experience is necessary, but applicants need to be eligible to work in the UK (meaning they must be a UK, Irish or EU passport holder), and be available for filming between August and November this year.

The posting seems to confirm there will be flashbacks which will include the friendship of Dumbledore and Grindelwald. Jude Law and Johnny Depp will respectively play adult versions of the characters.

More details on the job are up at https://www.pottermore.com/

That's a shedload of Beasts when you think about it - probably a magic shed, then. I believe one of JK's plans is to visit magic traditions around the world, celebrating diversity, imagination and thrills and no doubt already ready to act as presiding tongue-in-cheek caller on the offenderati's cultural appropriation bingo cards. Bring it on, fun for all!

I love the first film
Me too - if Paris is taking centre stage for the next one, plenty of scope for lavish sewer scenes and maybe a cameo for a (very) young Gene Kelly clone - having finally given American fans some USA-based treats, it would be a shame to deter them all over again. Plus, Paris in the Thirties - gonna be stylish, possibly even chic.
But zut alors every cafe table will be full of intense poseurs chain-smoking their Galoises for period accuracy. They'll have to put out a nicotine-free version, about 75 minutes shorter than the authorised version, and a generation will be bewildered by the holes in the plot. Merde!

Though it still has yet to score a title, the follow-up to the $814 million worldwide grossing “Harry Potter” prequel spin-off film “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” has now begun filming in the United Kingdom.

Returnees include Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Johnny Depp as the dark wizard Gellert Grindewald, Ezra Miller as Credence, and Zoe Kravitz as Leta Lestrange. Also onboard are the previously announced Jude Law as a young Albus Dumbledore, and Callum Turner as Newt’s Auror brother Theseus Scamander.

Joining them are Claudia Kim as a young woman who is an attraction at a wizarding circus, William Nadylam as a wizard named Yusuf Kama, Olafur Darri Olafsson as circus operator Skender, Ingvar Sigurdsson as a bounty hunter, and Kevin Guthrie as Abernathy who is the head of the U.S. Magical Congress.

J.K. Rowling once again penned the screenplay which opens in 1927, several months after events of the first film. Grindewald has escaped custody and is gathering more followers to his cause. This time, it’s down to his former friend Albus Dumbledore to stop him with the help of former student Scamander.

The film is the second in a proposed five-part film series with David Yates once again returning to direct. The majority of the film’s action will reportedly take place around London and Paris.

Shooting will take place primarily at Leavesden Studios with the movie slated to open November 16th 2018.

“Beasts” Producer Talks Dumbledore Casting

beasts-producer-talks-dumbledore-casting-696x464.jpg

Following the reveal of the first cast photo for the “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” sequel, the film’s producer David Heyman has now spoken about some of the casting choices.

Specifically he’s discussed the casting of Jude Law as Dumbledore and says it was because he possesses many of the same qualities that they have found in the Dumbledore character:

“One of the reasons we chose Jude is he has many of the qualities we find in Dumbeldore in the Potter films. He’s got authority, he’s got a twinkle in his eye, he’s sometimes a bit elliptical. So you have that but also have this youthful energy and jubilance. So he brings that twinkle, mischief, authority, and power, but at the same time brings far more youthful energy to the film. You understand why he would be your favorite teacher and be someone you believe is an extraordinary wizard.”

Law is part of a cast that also includes Ezra Miller as Credence, Claudia Kim as a Maledictus, Zoe Kravitz as Leta Lestrange, Callum Turner as Theseus Scamander, Katherine Waterson as Tina Goldstein, Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, Alison Sudol as Queen Goldstein and Johnny Depp as Dark wizard Gellert Grindlewald.

“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is in production in the U.K. and France ahead of a late 2018 release.

“Fantastic Beasts” Sequel Wraps Production

Production has officially ended on the upcoming “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” with Warner Bros. Pictures releasing a video of actress Alison Sudol making the announcement.

The film marks the second of five new films set in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding world. Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Claudia Kim, Zoe Kravitz, and Callum Turner all star with Jude Law as Dumbledore and Johnny Depp as Grindelwald.

In the new film Grindelwald escapes custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.

In an effort to thwart Grindelwald-s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family.

“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is being directed by David Yates from a screenplay by J.K. Rowling. It opens November 16th 2018.

“Fantastic Beasts” Sequels Get Global Settings

fantastic-beasts-sequels-get-global-settings-696x464.jpg

The first “Fantastic Beasts” film is set in New York City, the upcoming sequel “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is set around Paris. Director David Yates has now confirmed that three further proposed films in the “Harry Potter” prequel spin-off series will each take place in a different city.

Speaking with EW he’s confirmed that author J.K. Rowling, who is penning the scripts for the films, has already decided on where the next will take place:

“Jo’s already told us where the next one is taking place. It’s very exciting. This is a global story, ultimately. And given that there’s a global audience for this, it’s all the more delightful to take the story to different parts of the world.”

Those parts will likely tie back to the magical world that Rowling has fleshed out on the official Pottermore site where she previously has gone into detail about seven wizarding schools around the globe with the countries of Japan, Brazil, Uganda and Russia likely candidates for at least two of the films.

“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” opens in cinemas on November 16th.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindlewald
Director: David Yates (every “Harry Potter” since the fifth)
Cast: Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Ezra Miller
Details: The second of five planned prequel films to the “Harry Potter” saga, this one seems much less standalone and more about setting up the next few movies along with tying directly back to the events of the ‘Potter’ films with Dumbledore arriving as a character – albeit as Jude Law playing his own age which has already seen him dubbed ‘Hot Dumbledore’.

In the new film, Johnny Depp’s dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald has escaped and has set about gathering followers for his cause of an army of pure-blood wizards to rule over all non-magical beings. Dumbledore enlists Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander’s help as the wizarding world becomes increasingly divided. Expect a notably darker adventure this time out.
