Extinction
Director: Ben Young (“Hounds of Love,” “Something Fishy”)
Cast: Lizzy Caplan, Emma Booth, Michael Pena, Mike Colter
Details: What sounded like a fairly generic sci-fi movie, albeit with a solid cast, became much more interesting last month when Universal Pictures suddenly pulled the movie from the schedule two months from release and without explanation. The film deals with a father who has a recurring dream of losing his family, a dream that becomes real when the planet is invaded by a force bent on destruction.

So what happened? Director Ben Young’s Australian kidnap drama “Hounds of Love” really pushed buttons with its super dark and controversial subject matter when it was released, did he push it too far with this U.S. studio release and they became hesitant? There is still no date for the movie, and no promo material has been released to date so it’s still a guessing game as to what’s happened with it.
