A massive box office flop when it opened, helping to drive 20th Century Fox to the point of bankruptcy...

But is it any good as a film?

Or was talking to the animals a complete waste of Rex Harrison's time - and ours?

Yes, this movie along with other flops, such as Julie Andrew's movie "Star!" and Barbara Striesand in "Hello Dolly!" nearly caused the end of 20th Century Fox.

Luckily they were saved by the success of "Planet of the Apes".

In a way I am surprised that they remade it with Eddie Murphy, given that it was not the huge hit they had hoped for the first time around.

I loved Rex Harrison, so I watched everything he was in. Good or Bad it didn't matter to me.
I liked it, but I liked him & animals, so it was OK for me...
