“Baby Driver” Featurette Looks At Baby’s Story

TriStar Pictures has released a new featurette about Edgar Wright’s upcoming caper thriller “Baby Driver,” a welcome return of the celebrated British auteur.

Ansel Elgort stars as a young, orphaned man who was left with tinnitus as a child from a car accident that killed his parents. The only way for him to effectively get through any situation is to have an iPod playing music to give his life a soundtrack for him to move along with. That’s also what makes him the best getaway driver in town.

Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Elsa Gonzalez, Lily James, and Jon Bernthal also star in the film which scored rave reviews out of SXSW in March – so good that the film was bumped up and will now open June 28th.

Final Trailer: Edgar Wright’s “Baby Driver”

Sony Pictures has premiered (via Mashable) a new trailer for Edgar Wright’s music-themed crime/action film “Baby Driver”.

Ansel Elgort plays a getaway driver named ‘Baby’ who’s desperate to get out of his crime-filled life. Following a tragic accident as a kid, the tinnitus in his head has led to him requiring to listen to a soundtrack wherever he goes.

As a result, the film plays as both a serious action thriller and something of a jukebox musical, albeit one without singing. Instead, the action, dialogue and more are edited to the rhythm of whatever song is playing.

Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Lily James, Jon Bernthal and Eiza Gonzalez lead the cast for the film which opens June 28th.

Just saw this today. Found it to be much better than I was expecting, with a good storyline behind the high octane car action and also a good musical soundtrack of various hit songs spanning the musical decades.

Definitely worth a watch.

Baby Driver allegedly didn't have the rights to all its songs, and now Sony's being sued

It's all to do with 'Debora'.

Sony is being sued over the use of one of the songs in Edgar Wright's hit action musical Baby Driver.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a copyright lawsuit was filed yesterday (August 3) claiming that Sony Pictures and other producers failed to clear the use of the T Rex song 'Debora'.

It was filed by the son of the band's frontman Marc Bolan, Rolan Feld, who was given the rights to 144 of his father's works in 2014.

"Inexplicably, Defendants failed to obtain – or even seek – the permission of the composition's US copyright hold Rolan Feld," states the complaint against Sony Pictures, Media Rights Capital, Bambino Films and others behind Baby Driver.

"In the six weeks since Feld brought this infringement to Defendant Sony's attention, Defendants have done little more than point fingers at one another – and they have neither apologised nor offered to pay Feld a reasonable licence fee."

Feld was made aware of the use of 'Debora' when a Sony Music representative contacted his lawyer to request a licence to use the track on the movie's soundtrack release.

The complaint claims that Feld then let Sony know that use of the song in the movie was "unauthorised", but Sony is said to have responded with "conflicting explanations", and Feld says they have now ceased communications.

Sony has yet to comment on the lawsuit.

Baby Driver has taken $140 million to date at the worldwide box office and is still on release.
