Fox Intend to Make Another Fantastic Four Film....

.... rather than just strike a deal with Marvel....

Josh Trank's 2015 Fantastic Four reboot is widely regarded as both a critical and commercial flop, and there aren't many who'd disagree with that.

But that doesn't mean 20th Century Fox has given up on bringing Marvel's oldest comic book back to the big screen.

"We're very interested in doing another Fantastic Four movie, and we love that cast, and it's really about getting the tone right," writer-producer Simon Kinberg told LRM.

Well the good news is it can really only improve from the last one. I mean its not actually possible to make a worse FF film, it it? Is it????

I never even watched the last one. The first FANTASTIC FOUR had some cool moments, but it still sucks. The sequel had Silver Surfer, which was done pretty much right, but then they mess up Galactus. At least Chris Evans escaped and became Captain America.

First ones were kiddie and kinda worked but the last one went nowhere. It wasn't as bas as people said but it was still pretty forgettable stuff.

I hope the next one forgoes another dull origin story.

Which is good for him (and he's great as Captain America) but disappointing from a Fantastic Four perspective as he was pretty much perfect as Johnny Storm.

A Kid-Friendly “Fantastic Four” Reboot Planned?





In order to keep the film rights to “Fantastic Four” without them reverting to Marvel, a new film based on the characters will have to be released sometime in the next few years but 20th Century Fox.

Now, it is reported that the studio has hired Seth Grahame-Smith to work on a new treatment – one that’s much more kid-friendly and similar in concept to Pixar’s “The Incredibles”.

The new story will reportedly be told through the eyes of the children of Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Woman – Franklin and Valeria Richards.

Smith did work on the early drafts of the script for the 2015 reboot, before his work got effectively chucked by director Josh Trank who elected to write his own screenplay.

Wow. That sounds pretty dumb. I wonder how many times it will take before someone understands the very simple concept of what makes the Fantastic Four interesting.

In some alternative universe, today is a big day for superhero movies. Forget Wonder Woman and Spider-Man: Homecoming - today, the focus of the geek world have been focused on Fantastic Four 2, or "Fant4stic 2", as it might have been known.

Three years ago, prior to even the release of the first film in the franchise, Fox confidently announced a release date for its sequel. That day would have been today.

It turns out though, that history played out differently. The first Fantastic Four was met with terrible reviews: It currently sits at 9% on the Rotten Tomatoes "Tomatometer", which aggregates film critic reviews. Even amongst a less snooty audience, it sits at just 18%. For comparison, the similar execrable Suicide Squad sits at 25% with critics and 61% with audiences.

Fant-four-stick was also a box office stinker. It cost $120m to make - and pulled in only $168m. Given that the production budget doesn't include marketing and other costs, it's likely that the film actually made a loss.

Needless to say, the expected sequel did not get made. So, umm, don't expect to be heading to your local cineplex tonight to find out what happened to the team next. But just imagine what could have been.

So what's the point in us telling you this story? Perhaps it is a good example (looking at you, DC Shared Universe and Universal "Dark Universe") of why movie studios shouldn't be quite so hubristic.

“Fantastic Four” Second Reboot Goes Kiddie?





Not that long ago came a rumor that 20th Century Fox’s next attempt at adapting Marvel Comics’ “Fantastic Four” into a workable film franchise would take on a more kid-centric approach.

Today, Bleeding Cool claims to have more information on that rumor. The site reports that the new film will be based on Mark Millar and Curtis Tieg’s “Kindergarten Heroes” comic series.

That 2012 comic never went to print and follows a team of toddler superheroes. Fox optioned the film rights to the property a few years back and set Carter Blanchard to pen a script. Now the site claims the studio is reworking that scripti into a “Fantastic Four” film.

The earlier rumor suggested that the children of Reed and Sue Richards, Franklin and Valeria, would serve as the lead characters. If that’s still the case is unclear, but Seth Grahame-Smith is reportedly the writer of the most recent draft.

Disney now has its hands on Fox’s key franchises including “X-Men,” “Alien,” “Predator,” “Avatar,” “Die Hard,” “Planet of the Apes,” “Kingsman” and “Fantastic Four” (which is listed in the press release). Disney now also controls the full rights to all “Star Wars” films with the previously Fox-owned 1977 original likely to go back to Disney’s Lucasfilm – meaning theatrical re-releases and a potential home video version of the original theatrical cut.
