Fans were in for a great treat, thanks to David Saunders.

He provided them with the definitive encyclopedia covering the worlds of Doctor Who, starting with

A - D

then E - K

then L - R....

And, erm, then he stopped!

After Colin Baker - and, indeed, after the demise of the original show, out went the annuals - and in came the yearbooks......

These were much more factually based than the old World Distributors annuals had been....

I only recently picked up a copy on Amazon.

I have a lot of time for episode guide books, seeing what other people think of each story; allowing me to see old stories in new ways.

I have a lot of time for episode guide books, seeing what other people think of each story; allowing me to see old stories in new ways.
The reviews sections in those books are often my favourite parts, although I confess to occasionally throwing the book across the room in disgust when someone writes nasty things about a story that's one of my favourites - or gushes with praise over something I think of as a pretty ordinary episode. But every now and then a contrary opinion can help me reassess my own views (not often though - my own opinions are, naturally, the "correct" ones and those who disagree are obviously completely ignorant :emoji_wink:).

Let us not forget the short lived Radio Times comic strip of 1996......

I get the impression that the run of these strips was not long enough to warrant a compilation volume of any kind?

I love reading the episode guidebooks, offering different opinions on different stories.

The Discontinuity guide was one of my early favourites.
