Fun Your Favourite TV Series Finale of All Time?

In this day of the "quick and painless" cancellation of shows we have loved and wanted more of....
Bloody damn networks....

What series that had the chance to choose and prepare their own finale's did you like the best? Saying goodbye is just flat-out-awful but a good ending can go a very long way towards making it manageable.
Here's my list for the moment... what's yours?

Stargate SG1 (Because SG1 is still out there "fighting the good fight" and that sooo works for me.)

The Closer (Best last line: "It looks like love... it looks like love.")

M.A.S.H (So long and fare-well)

Continuum (Because home is still home... even when it isn't yours... if you saved it anyway and came back from the war in one piece)

Hill Street Blues ("Let's be careful out there".....)

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries (This may fall into "unknown" because many think it will return. Alas, I am not one of them. I'm pretty sure that even if they do end up making a movie or movies, something I'm also not convinced will happen, or if it gets made that it will hit big screen) Because the last episode of season 3 was a great "last kiss" and one all of the fans had been waiting for!

I did not like Star Trek Voyager's finale (Endgame) at all. Yeah, they got home but it was all a big mess.

Hmm, most show I watch get cancelled and the ones that didn't, had crap finales.
The only really good finale I can think of right now, is MASH.

Not just because of its current anniversary but for me Buffy would be hard to beat, although MASH and Being Human come pretty close in excellence.

BLAKE'S 7 (1978 - 1981).

The most shattering and shocking finale to any TV series I have ever seen - and will probably ever see.

And it was final in a way that very few other film or TV series makers would dare to be.

Completely logical, completely satisfying, simply complete.

I did not like Star Trek Voyager's finale (Endgame) at all. Yeah, they got home but it was all a big mess.

I feel the same way about Enterprise. I watch until the last episode (which the cast of TNG played more of a part in than the actual cast) and then pretend the finale' never happened and make my own ending up instead. Crazy, but it works for me.

Not just because of its current anniversary but for me Buffy would be hard to beat, although MASH and Being Human come pretty close in excellence.

Carol GF! Thank you again. I forgot all about Buffy and it was indeed as big, explosive, touching and wonderful as it deserved to be. Being Human... the Brit ending left me cold and the US version never really lived up to the Brit version for me so it's hard for me to know how I feel about either of them.

BLAKE'S 7 (1978 - 1981).

You keep bringing this up AM and I keep wanting to see it but the start of S1 is so bad it's hard to continue.... Could I start on S2 and then go back and run all the way through it to get "the full" B7 experience? A couple of folks on IMDb suggested this as a good way to approach the series because while the story was great, the FX not so much. So starting with 2 was a good way to get hooked and avoid some pitfalls.

Torchwood was a real heartbreaker for me as well since I fully expected it to run forever like The Doctor does. But they bashed it into a wall in order to ensure it could never come back and I'll never forgive them for that!

SJ... never got into it that much. Loved her, loved the dog... have no idea why I just couldn't stay with it.

I loved The West Wing finale. Made me want to watch seven more years of the Santos presidency.

Friends - she got off the plane.

Blackadder Goes Forth is probably my all time favourite ending. For a comedy to end so poignantly is some achievement.

And one day I really will get as far as the end, as I loved all of it that I saw - it switched channels here at a time we only had terrestrial, so sadly, that's one I have on hold.

I'm right there with you on that one Hux. I didn't expect it to happen at all, but it did and I too really wanted to be there for the great ride you know was going to come.

Friends... I gave up when JA didn't stay with Joey. They were soulmates. The other thing would never have made it long-term. But....
that's just my opinion.

With as many wonderful things as I've heard about Blackadder, you'd thing I'd have seen it by now and yet.... no.

Well, you have to decide for yourself how you wish to view a film or a TV series - or if you want to view it at all. However, I would always suggest that a person should view a TV program in the correct order to obtain the fullest benefit from viewing it.

Speaking for myself, special effects rate a very low in my viewing experience. For me, it's all about the people and the plot. Do I like them? Does the story interest me? Do I care about what happens next? That's why I love TV series like THE TWILIGHT ZONE (1959), DOCTOR WHO (1963), STAR TREK (1966), THE SURVIVORS (1975), BLAKE'S 7 (1978) and so on and so forth.

The film AVATAR (2009) has been celebrated for its ground-breaking special effects, but it left me feeling empty and indifferent. I couldn't care less about had happened or might happen next to any of the characters in it. I hear there are another four or five sequels coming, but I have no interest in seeing any of them. I'd much rather re-watch THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (1951), IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE (1953) or FORBIDDEN PLANET (1956) again, instead of wasting my time on something that has plenty of special effects - but nothing else that is special.

Of course, that's just me. Everyone has to decide for themselves what works best.

About: Stargate SG1, I truly think I went thru withdrawal when this stopped. I had been a loyal fan from the very 1st episode.
About: The Closer, it was a good show and they had a good run and she finally got her Emmy. I thought it was a fitting finale.
About: Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries we waited to longggg for "the kiss". Sunflower007 is also a fan.

About: West Wing, there will never be a better political series than this one. Never missed an episode,
even though I had to VCR record because I was working a 2nd shift job at the time. I learned more about
our government from this program than I did from any civics class. So sorry to see it go, but it too had a good run & I think it was best to stop before it could go downhill, which happens sometimes when series
go on "to long". I do believe it may be on Netflix, but not sure.

Ditto! I followed them from Showtime to the Science-Fi channel and I'm pretty sure you & I are the only ones who kept following to the end. I was even good with the cast changes! I think their last season was one of their best and as I said before, I will always believe they are still out there fighting the good fight!

I'm also pretty sure we're simpatico on pretty much everything we watch. Also... I was all over TMFMM board on IMDb because I was regularly checking the website of Every Cloud Productions who were responsible for getting the show on the air... writing, production,
everything. I wasn't reading Variety or interviews with her (well, I read them but gave them only a little weight because stars are regularly asked to lie about the production of shows they're in). I also did all the research on the costume director responsible for everything the cast wore and those stories are priceless! I know they all (on the site) ended up being all excited because the movie(s) had been greenlit but a green light does not mean a show is going to get made. History of film is littered with the corpses of scripts that were greenlit, cast, and even had a production start date and never got any further than that. So you'll have to forgive my pessimism on that particular subject.

Also... out of left field.... love that blooming flower!!! Love it, love it, love it!
